Primary Purpose
The Network Engineer is responsible for the administration and maintenance of critical information systems, network infrastructure, and datacenter operations within on-premises and cloud-based datacenters.
Responsibilities
- Provide administration and support of Windows and Linux information systems including full lifecycle support to ensure operation status
- Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve system performance and reliability
- Administer and manage software and applications including but not limited to open-source products, Jira/Confluence, and LAMP applications
- Ensure the integrity and security of information systems and network devices through system patching and updates
- Assist with day-to-day operations of on-premise datacenter and cloud computing environments
- Ensure back-up routines and continuity of operations plans are in place
- Design, install, configure, maintain, and patch servers, switches, routers, firewalls, SANs, and other critical IT infrastructure appliances
- Responsible for monitoring, alerting, and availability of critical IT infrastructure and Emmes' systems
- Be available on call and provide support outside of business hours for emergency needs
- Provide timely professional hardware and software technical support to coordinate and resolve complex issues
- Configure, troubleshoot, resolve and document IT infrastructure issues
- Manage and work on multiple projects and activities simultaneously
- Interact with third-party vendors and internal database and development staff
- Utilization of automation tools for patching, security remediation, and system workflows
- Review and maintain application and system logs to ensure operational stability and system health
- Communicate and coordinate planning of administration and day to day activities with department and project staff
- Other duties as assigned
Experience
- BS in Information System or related field with at least 3 years of related work experience; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- Experience with MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL
- Experience or certification with cloud-computing: AWS, Azure
- Knowledge of the following:
- Windows and Linux system administration network and cloud architecture system design and integration
- Installation, configuration, testing and administration of network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, SAN), virtual computing infrastructure (multiple servers, OS, applications, databases), cloud computing services (AWS/Azure/GCP) and security tools.
- Active Directory and Active Directory Federation Services
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012,2016, 2019
- Linux: Redhat/Centos/RockyLinux
- VMware vSphere and storage/networking concepts
- Automation tools for Linux: Ansible
- Scripting: powershell/bash
- Network protocols: DNS, HTTPS, LDAP, SNMP, etc.
- Network Monitoring Systems like MRTG or PRTG
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
