Steam & Boilers Technical Supervisor, Position Number 124448

Performs and supervises the maintenance, operation and repair of the University’s medium and low-pressure steam distribution and condensate return systems as well as gas and steam-fired hydronic and steam boilers, this includes verifying all employee or contractor performed work adheres to code requirements and University standards. Assists with troubleshooting and analysis of steam and condensate return systems as well as gas and steam-fired boilers. Establishes plans, schedules, cost estimates and budget forecasts based on inspections and customer requests. Oversees the work of a team of HVAC Mechanics and contractors working on campus steam and boiler systems under University responsibility. Coordinates hazardous material testing and abatement with Environmental Affairs and hazardous material abatement program manager. Assists with providing technical support to architects, engineers, clients, coworkers, and other affiliated agencies associated with new construction, rehabilitation, renovation and repair projects. Provides coordination and support for scheduled and emergency steam and boiler outages.  Position will respond to emergencies and incidents related to area of responsibility.  Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and five (5) years of experience with steam and/or boiler systems; without Bachelor’s degree nine (9) years’ experience, five (5) of those with steam and/or boiler systems required. Minimum three (3) years at a lead or supervisory level where direct supervision or field responsibility can be demonstrated is also required. The ability to prepare specifications for the requisition of services, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies in a public sector environment is preferred. Grade 3 Maryland Stationary Engineer License, or equivalent preferred. Steam or Gasfitter Journeyman License desired.

HVAC Technical Supervisor, Position Number 101722

This position directs the daily operations of a team of HVAC Mechanics and has total responsibility for the complete maintenance, operation, service and repair of a wide variety of large, complex commercial and industrial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including large regional heating and cooling facilities up to 4,000 tons in an assigned area.  Incumbent also serves as an expert mechanic for the equipment and systems in the zone or area of responsibility. Bachelor’s degree and six (6) years of experience in the HVAC industry; without Bachelor’s degree ten (10) years of experience. Minimum 3 years at a supervisory level where direct supervision or field responsibility can be demonstrated is required. Applicants for this position must have CFC certification at the Universal level. Additional vocational certified HVAC trade school or vocational college level course certification in the HVAC industry preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid Maryland Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, with fewer than 6 points
