Director, Career Services and Public Service ProgramsGeorge Mason University's Career and Academic Services Office, within the Antonin Scalia Law School, is seeking a Director, Career Services and Public Service Programs. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Department:The Career Services office provides professional development programs for and counseling to students; assists students and alumni in finding employment; engages in recruitment of and marketing to employers and alumni; and generally facilitates relations between the School of Law and its alumni.Career Services serves as a clearinghouse for information on available positions in the metropolitan Washington area, across the country, and overseas. Additionally, Career Services provides numerous support services to its students and alumni, including individual career counseling; resume, cover letter, and writing sample review; seminars on a range of professional development topics; in-person and virtual recruiting events; and a network of alumni and friends of the School of Law throughout the country who can provide advice and conduct mock interviews. Career services also collects and audits employment data for submission to the ABA. All JD students are required to participate in a 30-minute counseling session with a career counselor before their second year of law school.About the Position:The Director is responsible for directing career services programs, student outreach, and all public service employer recruitment initiatives. The Director is responsible for the overall strategy of engagement of public sector employers and for setting the budget for public sector programs and initiatives.Responsibilities:Career counseling and tracking for J.D. candidates and alumni;Developing employment opportunities;Managing job fairs and other career-related events; andCreating marketing materials.Required Qualifications:Master's degree, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience;Practical experience and interpersonal skills to advise students on finding jobs and to develop new law and/or nontraditional legal opportunities;Ability to manage career-related programs;Ability to market and promote the school and students to potential employers (e.g., law firms, corporations, not-for-profit organizations, think tanks, and/or the U.S. government, etc.);Knowledge of and interest in law and career counseling;Excellent oral and written communications skills;Proven interpersonal skills, a commitment to working with a diverse student body and faculty, and a team approach to problem-solving; andProficient computer skills and ability to work with multiple databases and excel.Preferred Qualifications:J.D. or practical experience or training in the legal or counseling fields is strongly preferred;Public relations, communications and/or student affairs experience; andPublic speaking experience.
