Assessment Analyst George Mason University's Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for an Assessment Analyst position. HRL serves a highly diverse population of approximately 6,200 students, the majority of which are undergraduates living in traditional, suite and apartment-style residence halls on three campuses within the vibrant Northern Virginia area. HRL employs over 170 full-time and graduate staff members and over 300 undergraduate student staff members. About the Position:Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Housing Operations, the Assessment Analyst provides strategic leadership and ongoing support for the systematic assessment and reporting of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) goals, outcomes, and assessment planning. They are responsible for maintaining official and recommended practices at the unit level and informs and contributes to our division level work. The Assessment Analyst will be responsible for helping to determine and implement the most appropriate ways to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the HRL operation.This position will work collaboratively with Institutional Effectiveness and Planning, as well as the broader University at times, to ensure thoughtful integration of all efforts. They will contribute insight and variable levels of oversight of assessment practices, policies, and systems at a Divisional level. The Assessment Analyst role will include oversight, development, and execution of an assessment plan for Housing and Residence Life, including the collection, analysis, and organization of data sources and their associated KPI's and/or goals. The Assessment Analyst will make appropriate use of CAS Standards, SACS accreditation requirements, ACUHO-I standards, and other relevant frameworks/compliance guidelines as needed.Responsibilities:Housing and Residence Life (HRL)Oversees the implementation and continued development of HRL assessment policy and supportive workflow processes in coordination with Divisional priorities. Provides appropriate analysis of results. Provides guidance/input to research design and implementation. Provides appropriate logistical support for unit level assessment activities;Supports HRL leadership with HRL level policy and operations improvements based on performed research and synthesis including, but not limited to, the preparation of reports or proposals that illustrate and support recommendations;Provides data and decision level support to HRL leadership;Manages internal unit reporting including Tk20, accreditation, and other divisional or unit priorities;Serves as HRL representative on the Institutional Effectiveness and Planning committee;Leads Unit Level strategic, annual, and assessment planning, including the development, revision, and goal/metric tracking;Administers annual assessments of the resident population as needed to determine if their needs are being met and/or monitor changes over time;Monitors and analyzes trends observed within the residential population and recommends changes;Recommends action steps that reflect best practices in our various service areas. Research industry standards and benchmarking tools to develop metrics that help define "success" for the HRL unit. Uses these metrics to assess and evaluate the operation of HRL, and for comparison with other Mason units and external (local/state/national) entities as needed;Builds relationships and collaborates with professional colleagues, subject matter experts, HRL operational managers, and HRL leadership to perform analysis, validate findings, and interpret results;Effectively supports and plays a role in leading Divisional, formal, standardized, cyclical program review; andProduces annual report noting areas of potential growth and recommends goals to enhance efficiency and productivity of HRL.University Life (UL)Assists with management of Divisional reporting requirements including Tk20, accreditation, and other divisional priorities;Collaborates with Institutional Effectiveness and Planning on Divisional planning, including the development, revision, and goal/metric tracking;Coordinates assessment efforts with divisional personnel. Develops briefings, reports, and presentations for a variety of audiences to include professional experts, senior leadership, and other constituents;Serves as the lead for routine reviews and audits of our operation as requested;Serves a member of the UL Strategic Planning committee and utilizes data to ensure HRL goals and processes are in alignment with UL Strategic Planning; andReviews existing assessment related processes within each unit and determines if they are appropriate and assists to identify and implement quality improvements.Training and SupervisionWill be in a shared supervision/professional support model supervised by the Associate Director of Housing Operations.Student Engagement & LearningDirectly ensures that HRL goals support UL goals by showing in a data format the positive impact our residents are experiencing as a residential student. The "value added" component will eventually lead to HRL showing gains in retention and graduation to contribute to the University as a whole.Required Qualifications:Master's degree from an accredited institution required, preferably in student affairs, higher education, social sciences, statistics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience (typically obtained in 1 year) in a full-time or equivalent part-time employment capacity required, preferably in educational assessment/research, institutional research, applied statistics, social sciences, or related setting;Experience with assessment, including survey design, analysis, and reporting, as well as familiarity with statistical methods, data management, and data analysis packages (SPSS, SAS, etc.);Ability to use MS Office Suite is a necessity;Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment;Demonstrated written and oral communication, and strong presentation skills;Effective organizational and project management skills, as well as attention to detail; andMust be able to manage several projects at once, keep projects moving forward, and take initiative to advance and complete work.Preferred Qualifications:Experience and knowledge of student affairs higher education;Experience and knowledge with college housing;Experience using syntax-based analyses and MS Access database management;Familiarity with MicroStrategy database analytic and reporting tool;Administrative experience successfully coordinating team projects with others whom one does not supervise; andShould demonstrate an understanding of techniques and strategies.
