Police Cadet Internal Search: Open to currently enrolled George Mason University students only. The George Mason University Police Department invites current George Mason University students for the position of Police Cadet. The department is looking to fill positions immediately. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities: Duties, responsibilities and requisite skills include, but are not limited to:Foot, bicycle, golfcart, and vehicle patrol of the campus;Directing vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic using hand directions and verbal instructions;Responding to calls for service (i.e. locking and unlocking doors);Providing escorts, traffic control, crowd control, and event staffing;Utilizing a police radio on a public safety radio system;Reporting hazardous conditions;Assisting police officers as directed;Crime prevention and security of buildings; andPreparing reports as needed.Training is provided in all of the above responsibilities, as well as in CPR/AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and proper radio communication procedures.Required Qualifications:Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures;Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions;Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time;Ability to practice effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty and staff, and the larger university community;Ability to communicate effectively via telephone and radio;Have a command of the English language (i.e., oral and written);Ability to remain calm during stressful and emergency situations;Assist the public in a professional manner;Ability to pass a background check;Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision;Ability to work independently and as a member of a team; andMust currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.
