Facilities Management at the University of Maryland, College Park, seeks HVAC Mechanics with professional knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and systems including building automation in the following areas.

HVAC Mechanic II Fume Hoods, Position Number 101750

HVAC Mechanic with knowledge of fume hood systems and related HVAC equipment to perform preventive/corrective and predictive maintenance, and system upgrades for proper operation of fume hood systems and related HVAC equipment and to evaluate performance of related systems resulting in recertification within University standards. Must have six (6) years of progressively responsible field experience in the HVAC trade, including hands-on training in HVAC systems, electrical, and/or building automation and other building support equipment such as pneumatic systems, low voltage switchgear, and motor control centers (MCC). Specific experience with electrical, electronic equipment required.

HVAC Mechanic II Fan Coil, Position Number 112651

Inspects fan coil units, changes filters and replaces fan coil motors and switches as needed. Cleans and repairs coils, housings, and units. Performs service scheduled maintenance on fan coil units throughout campus. Must have a minimum six (6) years progressively responsible field experience in the HVAC Mechanical trade.

HVAC Mechanic III Zone Operations, Position Number 101774

Installs and repairs HVAC equipment such as centrifugal, reciprocating, and screw compressors, hydronic systems and pumps, boilers, air handling units, chillers, unitary equipment, rooftop units and package units. Installs, diagnoses, and repairs all facets of temperature control systems. Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains variable speed drive devices and power electronic devices. Must have a minimum eight (8) years progressively responsible field experience in the HVAC trade and Universal CFC certification.

HVAC Chief Steam, Position Number 101754

Performs routine maintenance and planned service on HVAC equipment in various locations on campus including installation of components, repairs, facility renewal projects and other programs to extend the life of HVAC and related equipment. Work performed will focus on but not be limited to, the campus medium and low-pressure steam piping and equipment, such as pressure reducing stations, steam traps, condensate return units, and condensate tempering devices, control valves and associated piping. This includes the independent installation, repair, and maintenance of various steam system components, assisting with facility renewal projects, and other programs to extend the life of steam HVAC heating and humidity equipment, domestic hot water steam heating systems, lab sterilization equipment utilizing steam (autoclaves, cage washers, etc.) and other related equipment Performs the work outlined above in a non-supervisory role, as an expert senior mechanic. Must have ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in the HVAC field as it pertains to steam boilers, equipment, and utilities required. Possession of a Maryland HVAC journeyman’s license is desired and supervisory experience is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS: All applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid Maryland Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent, with fewer than 6 points

BENEFITS: Position is Essential and subject to 24-hour/day, 7-day/week span of operation. Position is not tele-work eligible. Benefits include health, dental, vision and prescription insurance plans, tuition remission for employees and dependents and participation in the State pension system.
