Nurse PractitionerThe George Mason University, Student Health Services Department, invites applications for a Nurse Practitioner position. About Student Health Services: Student Health Services (SHS) provides health care services at George Mason University. SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at Mason, including but not limited to, initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provide services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis. SHS operates its main clinic on the Mason Fairfax campus and smaller clinics on the Mason Square (Arlington) and SciTech (Prince William) campuses. About the Position: The job expectations include promoting excellence in patient care, supporting and facilitating professional growth and development, and upholding standards of professionalism and the mission of SHS.Responsibilities:Assess and manage a wide variety of acute and chronic primary care problems;Consult, refer, and collaborate with both University and Community providers and resources involved in providing health care services;Work at the Fairfax Clinic and Arlington Clinic;In time, become the primary provider at the Arlington Clinic, provide administrative oversight at that clinic and represent Student Health at the Arlington Campus;Perform indicated procedures as defined in the Request for Clinical Privileges;Perform, order, interpret, and manage laboratory results and radiological studies;Evaluate and treat patients in specialty clinics including Travel Clinic, Immunization Clinic, Allergy Clinic, Women's Health Clinic, and Sexual Assault Services;Precept graduate and undergraduate nursing students;Participate in collaborative management of psychiatric patients with Mason counseling center and staff psychiatrist;Participate in and contribute to risk management activities including, but not limited to, prompt reporting of events that jeopardize licensure and/or status with the National Practitioner Data Bank;Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities including, but not limited to, Chart Review, Peer Review, Clinical Studies, In-Service presentation, Journal Review, Committee Membership, and Staff meetings;Participate in regular Provider meetings;Collaborate with Health Promotion activities for SHS and University Life;Incorporate knowledge of the relevance of cultural issues and background of students when developing, implementing, and evaluating individual plans of care, as well as programs and policies;Perform additional duties to meet certain needs for SHS that may arise intermittently.Required Qualifications:MSN from an accredited School of Nursing;Completion of an accredited NP Program;Certification as a NP;Valid Virginia RN license;Valid Virginia Autonomous NP license (or capability of obtaining one within 2 months);Valid DEA License; andCPR certified (training can be arranged if candidate is not presently certified).
