Financial Specialist, CVPA Art Centers & Academies The George Mason University, College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), seeks qualified applicants for a Financial Specialist. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The Financial Specialist will work with CVPA administrators to ensure the Finance staff of the College process financial obligations and take part in a state-mandated system of checks and balances involving the university's Accounts Payable, General Accounting, and Materials Management departments. The Financial Specialist will provide assurance that all purchases are made within state and university guidelines for departmental purchases according to CAPP Manual and university policies and procedures.Responsibilities:Timely and accurate payment of invoices through State and Foundation accounts;Set up purchase orders in eVA and process appropriate paperwork to ensure timely payment;Track financial transactions in Banner and supervise entry of transactions into QuickBooks for monthly reconciliation for performing arts centers;Respond to vendor and staff requests regarding status of payments and resolve discrepancies;Submit and monitor payment memos for performing artists to ensure payments are issued one week prior to contract due date;Track revenue transactions and verify amount with Tickets.com reports and other related documentation of revenue;Work with CVPA departments to process GMU Foundation account vouchers for all CVPA departments;Create requisitions, eVA orders, gather supporting documentation, and complete documents to pay incoming invoices;Review and approve all P-card transactions for the CVPA Auxiliary departments;Process all Center for the Arts and Hylton Performing Arts Center's performers' contracts into eVA to ensure timely issuance of purchase orders;Process requisitions for all CVPA Auxiliary units;Research discrepancies in the Banner system and prepare correcting journal entries or notify Accounts Payable to correct variances;Process departmental journal vouchers;Serve as a liaison for CVPA departments regarding issues relating to purchasing rules;Create and assist in creation of TouchNet stores for credit card processing;Develop processes for reporting and reconciliation of revenue;Troubleshoot problems relating to processing and allocation to GMU orgs; andIdentify opportunities to streamline cash handling processes through creation of new stores.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience in accounting principles, financial transaction processing, and understanding of standard business practices;Knowledge of University/State policies, procedures, and systems;Experience in purchasing and processing financial transactions;Excellent attention to detail and organization skills;Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;Demonstrated problem solving and analytical ability;Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills in a professional environment; andExperience working with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel) with ability to learn new software and systems as needed.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Banner, eVA, QuickBooks, and Microstrategy preferred; andKnowledge of accounting, finance, and business management, preferably in higher education.
