Media Acquisition SpecialistThe George Mason University, Resource Acquisition Unit within University Libraries, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Media Acquisition Specialist. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The Media Acquisition Specialist is responsible for providing acquisition management and coordination of the library's media and non-traditional resources, especially in streaming media format. This position manages the entire complex order and access cycles for these materials - from the request of a new resource through ensuring accurate, up-to-date access for faculty and students. This position helps to build the Libraries' collection of streaming films and databases through a mix of individual film orders, databases, media, and resources in non-traditional formats such as datasets and hard drives. This position maintains and updates a variety of databases, library systems, and other applications used in e-resource management. This position works closely with faculty and staff in the Libraries, especially the Music & Media Librarian and Electronic Resource Specialists, and outside academic departments, particularly FAVS to ensure that media requests are acquired and made available in a timely and accurate manner. Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience;Demonstrated experience with electronic resources, serials, or monograph acquisitions;Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills;Advanced effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to provide customer service in a diverse academic environment including library staff; Mason faculty, students and staff, and many external vendors;Well-developed service orientation and understanding of functional work and its impact on other library units, as well as the user community;Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, but also as part of a team in a fast-paced, production- and service-oriented environment;Aptitude for accurate and detail-oriented work; andAdvanced organizational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and exercise good judgment.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with media acquisitions in an academic library setting including work with streaming titles and licensing;Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems, discovery and access systems, bibliographic utilities, such as OCLC Connexion, and related systems and tools;Knowledge of streaming media management issues;Demonstrated ability in processing multi-format collections and resources; andFamiliarity with bibliographic utilities and other applications related to record loading and ingest processes.
