Are you passionate about research? Are you interested in supporting work that could help vulnerable older adults increase their economic opportunities? Then, AARP Foundation Research Team is looking for you! As a paid Research Intern with AARP Foundation, you will have the opportunity to work on elements for various research activities and projects, depending on project need and your interest. This internship will allow you to work up to 40 hours per week and has an anticipated start date of May 2023 and will go through the end of the year. You will primarily work with the AARP Foundation research team and interact with other AARP Foundation staff to fulfill the position's responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Contribute to the development and execution of research projects in the areas of workforce, public benefits, and tax refunds and credits by supporting the creation of research plans and management of projects
  • Conduct analyses of publicly available datasets to support requests from internal and external stakeholders for data and information about older adults living with low income
  • Create visual presentations of data and research findings
  • Contribute to critical review, assessment, and interpretation of primary and secondary research
  • Apply inquiry and problem-solving skills to advance the efficiency of research department processes

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in research, gerontology, public health, social sciences, or a related field and remain enrolled throughout the internship. Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in a doctoral program
  • Knowledge of and experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods and ability to analyze, synthesize, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data
  • Knowledge of and experience applying various statistical methods to data analysis is a plus
  • Creative initiative and thinking for presenting research findings and translating research into programmatic action
  • Organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; proficiency in statistical software such as SPSS and data visualization software such as Tableau
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo is a plus
  • Successful candidate will be dedicated to AARP Foundation's mission and will have a current understanding of issues facing older adults living with low income

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
