Minimum Qualifications :

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate (GED). Completion of a training program (acceptable to the Chief Operating Officer, RAIL Service) in electronics, electrical systems, or electrical engineering. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the testing, maintenance, and calibration of low, medium, and high voltage electrical switchgear/power distribution system equipment, including supervisory experience over a similar function.

Or, graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate (GED). A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the testing, maintenance, and calibration of low, medium, and high voltage electrical switchgear/power distribution system equipment, including supervisory experience over a similar function.

Medical Group:

Ability to complete satisfactorily the medical examination for this job. Ability to distinguish basic colors for wire and safety identification. Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodation(s).

License:

Possession of, or ability to rapidly acquire, a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued from the jurisdiction of residence.

Job Summary/Duties :

This is supervisory, professional, and technical electrical work which involves the testing, calibration and maintenance of power distribution equipment and the supervision of electrical maintenance and test technicians. Incumbent is responsible for planning, scheduling, and supervising all of the test ing, calibration, and required maintenance of variable voltage equipment used in the various WMATA power distribution systems. Incumbent performs supervisory duties that include but are not limited to planning and scheduling work crews, reviewing designs for new systems for constructability, procuring materials, evaluating employees, approving leave requests, and developing guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for personnel assigned to the section. Incumbent must have the technica l skills and knowledge to train technicians on the testing and techniques for the various types of equipment on the system. Incumbent in this position has latitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines. The performance evaluation of an incumbent in this position is based on effectiveness in performing assigned duties and effectiveness in supervising subordinate personnel.

Supervises electrical maintenance and test technic ians (mechanics) . Supervisory responsibilities include recommending applicant selection, disciplinary actions, resolution of grievances, assigning duties, direct ing and evaluating work, conducting performance appraisals, approving leave requests and time sheets, and ensuring appropriate subordinate training is provided. Performs administrative duties relating to personnel matters.

Plans and schedules work associated with the testing, calibrat ion, and maintenance of low, medium, and high voltage power equipment on the Metrorail system.

Supervises the installation of new equipment procured under the Capital Improvement Program to include new breakers, uninterrupt ible power supplies, and other electrical distribution equipment.

Reviews designs for new systems for constructability.

Plans and schedules Red Tag outages to ensure that required testing and calibration work is accomplished in a timely fashion.

Coordinates the procurement of materials and supplies required to support the efforts of this maintenance unit.

Reviews the MMS and maintains adequate inventory levels for power equipment parts. Assists in the maintenance/modification of the MARS data base which is used to monitor scheduled maintenance activities .

Establishes and maintains a safety awareness program within the organization unit.

Schedules on-the-job training to ensure continued expertise in the maintenance test and calibration activities.

Prepares reports and other documentation.

Performs related duties as requires.
