An Overview

The City of Alexandria is seeking a dynamic individual to provide clinical and administrative supervision and direct services in the Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Treatment Program. The Therapist Supervisor provides individual and group supervision and reviews documentation for conformance with Department standards and best practice approaches. This position provides clinical and management oversight, as well as direct clinical services. Tasks are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures under the supervision of the Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Team Leader.

What You Should Bring

The ideal candidate will bring with them extensive experience in providing clinical and administrative management in the wide array of substance use disorder field. This individual will be responsible for supervising a team of senior level clinicians providing direct clinical services. Our portfolio of work includes but not limited to managing direct service provision in the form of individual/group level intervention, grants management and maintaining administrative supervision of the team. This passionate and dedicated leader will possess skills related to problem solving using critical thought process.

Example of Duties:
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to outpatient therapists, including ongoing review of clinical activity and documentation thereof to assure conformance with treatment and record keeping standards;
  • Conduct quality improvement activities, including record review, individual and group supervision, training, and performance evaluation;
  • Assist supervised therapists in using the computerized record system (Credible) and assure that records are up-to-date and in conformance with CARF and Department standards;
  • Prepare staff performance evaluations in timely manner (10 days ahead of Personnel due date);
  • Provide treatment services to a caseload of 15-20 clients including assessments, crisis intervention, individual and group therapy, care coordination and/or case management;
  • Work collaboratively with a treatment team including facilitating inter-disciplinary treatment team meetings;
  • Attend all relevant team meetings and assists the Team Leader in sharing information with outpatient team;
  • Assist Team Leader in identifying program and team needs and in implementing new programs or models;
  • Assist in the hiring and training of new staff;
  • Assist in training staff related to evidence-based and medication-assisted treatments, including methadone and Suboxone;
  • Assist in training and developing staff related to Opioid Treatment Program intake coordination, policies, procedures, and best practices;
  • Maintain compliance with all Department training requirements;
  • Perform other related work as assigned.


About the Department

The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Master's degree in Human Services; two years post-graduate work experience in providing direct clinical services to clients having psychiatric and/or substance use disorders; at least two years post-master's experience providing diagnostic evaluations, assessments, and crisis intervention. Licensed in Virginia as an LCSW, LPC, LSATP, or Clinical Psychologist OR is license eligible (has completed all required education and supervision as required by applicable board) as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP), or Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia at the time of appointment; if license eligible, the employee must obtain Virginia license at the first available opportunity, but no later than one year after appointment. Good driving record/background check; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

At least five years providing substance use treatment in a community environment, including to those with co-occurring disorders. Experience utilizing best practices for substance use and co-occurring treatment. Experience in clinical supervision. Experience working with clients participating in medication-assisted treatment, including methadone or Suboxone, Bilingual (English and Spanish).

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:00AM - 5:30PM; Hours may involve some evenings and will depend on programming needs.
