Duties

The incumbent is a recognized expert in software development and security engineering within the Judiciary. They have a strong background in application development, extending security frameworks by integrating third-party Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and automating routine processes. The incumbent will perform various duties under the direction and guidance of the Systems Team Lead and the Chief, Security Mission Integration.

The incumbent is responsible for enhancing the capabilities of the Judiciary's Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system through development of custom components and improving the effectiveness of the judiciary's security program by leveraging automation and orchestration. The candidate should have experience developing unit-tests to validate code functionality, developing front-end user interfaces based on customer requirements, and automating mundane/repeatable tasks through code and automation platforms.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Transitioning manual security workflows into fully automated ones by leveraging existing API.
  • Maturing Information Technology Security Office's security capabilities by leveraging disparate datasets to improve the analytic capability for hard-to-detect cyber security threats across the enterprise.
  • Developing new capabilities and APIs in response to customer requirements for improved data exchanges and analytic workflows.
  • Developing and modeling new workflows to simplify threat detection and improve analytic capabilities.
  • Visualizing data exchanges in the most effective way possible for a given project or question.
  • Creating Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and other metrics that communicate the effectiveness of automation efforts to leadership.
  • Working both individually and in a collaborative manner with a team.

  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

    Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience, which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience must demonstrate ALL areas defined below:

    1. Experience in software and application development.
    2. Experience in security engineering.

    Applicants with the following degrees highly desirable:

    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or other relevant degree from fully accredited university.

    Applicants with the following certifications are highly desirable:

    Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP)
    Other relevant cybersecurity certification
