Duties

As a Motor Vehicle Operator Supervisor at President's Park (White House), you will:
  • Supervise 5 Motor Vehicle Operators assigned to assist in the storage, handling, and transportation of the White House Museum Collection, and the White House utilitarian supplies and materials.
  • Direct Team in the placement of all property within the warehouse and it responsible for maintaining up-to-date locations for all accountable property inventories.
  • Responsible for coordinating the transportation support for all operational units with the Program, including directing employees on how to properly load, secure, and transport valuable and delicate items.
  • Understand the unique nature of the museum collection and exercise care when handling, moving, and transporting museum collection objects.

  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You must possess and maintain a current, valid Class A (or higher) Commercial Driver License.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • This position is designated as an "emergency" employee who is required to work emergency situations as determined by Park Management and defined in NCR Personnel Management Bulleting No, 249.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to attend training, conferences, and/or to complete work assignments. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or
  • (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

    Physical Demands: The incumbent routinely handles objects weighing up to 75 pounds and occasionally over 500 pounds, with the help of co-workers and/or material handling equipment. Must be able to bend, turn, crawl, reach, push, pull, and climb while performing these duties. Must be able to work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
    Working Conditions: The incumbent is required to work indoors and out. The incumbent works in an administrative office area with computers, copiers, fax machine, etc., in a warehouse in tempered temperature conditions that can go as low as 56F and as high as 95F, and outdoors in all climactic conditions. Incumbent can expect to stand and work for long periods of time on concrete or other hard surfaces. Incumbent operates motor vehicles including straight trucks and forklifts and loads and unloads vehicles. When required, must be able to drive long distances in one day (up to 300 miles). Incumbent drives in all types of traffic and weather and is exposed to possibility of serious accidents. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises, back injury and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving and when loading or unloading the vehicle.

    The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
