Qualifications
In addition to the education requirement, you must also have the following specialized experience in order to qualify:
GS-12:
Specialized experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the private sector demonstrating the ability to research, analyze and draft memos on issues relevant to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and related statutes, and work on litigation teams in cases relating to ERISA and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). Examples include experience researching and analyzing provisions of ERISA and related statutes and providing research and other support in litigation involving benefit determinations, fiduciary breach, and administrative law challenges.
GS-13:
Specialized experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the private sector demonstrating the ability to identify, analyze, and litigate legal matters relevant to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). Education
A J.D. degree from a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
In addition to the education requirement, you must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a State, a Territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

- Research legal issues relating to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Internal Revenue Code, the Administrative Procedure Act, and other statutes.
- Draft legal memos.
- Respond to legal questions from various PBGC departments.
- Work with members of PBGC's Appeals Board.
- Participate in the development of PBGC regulations and guidance and research relevant administrative law issues.
- Assist in investigations of possible breaches of ERISA fiduciary duties.
- Assist and provide support on litigation matters involving defense of Appeals Board decisions, fiduciary breach, and administrative law challenges.
GS-13
- Analyze and interpret provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Internal Revenue Code, the Administrative Procedure Act, and other statutes. Research issues arising under those statutes.
- Draft legal memos and briefs.
- Provide legal advice to various PBGC departments.
- Provide legal advice to PBGC's Appeals Board.
- Participate in the development of PBGC regulations and guidance and provide advice on administrative law issues.
- Investigate possible breaches of ERISA fiduciary duties in PBGC-trusteed pension plans.
- Represent PBGC in litigation on matters such as defense of Appeals Board decisions, fiduciary breach, and administrative law challenges.
Requirements

- You must be a U.S. citizen
- You may undergo a personnel security background investigation
- Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt
- A 2-year trial period is required unless met during prior Federal service
- Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
