Job Description

The Washington Post seeks a pop culture editor to oversee coverage of the entertainment industry, with a primary focus on movies and television.

Working with staff writers and freelancers, this editor will assign stories based on both the release schedule and the news cycle. A given week might include editing a profile of an up-and-coming actress, analysis of the controversy surrounding a true-crime series, reporting from a celebrity trial, a review of a new TV series, an appreciation of a star who has recently died, and analysis of trends in the streaming business.

The ideal candidate will be able to toggle between longer enterprise features that develop over weeks or months and second-day stories that follow the news. Broad and deep knowledge of movies and television is required. Excellent line-editing skills and the ability to coach both experienced writers and those earlier in their careers are essential.

This role is based in The Post's Washington newsroom.

Interested applicants should upload a résumé, three work samples (as PDFs) and a cover letter describing their interest and experience to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 2/19/2023 will be prioritized. Cover letters should be addressed to Managing Editor Krissah Thompson, Executive Features Editor Ben Williams and Deputy Features Editor Mitch Rubin.
