MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in public policy, Public Administration, or related field

Experience
  1. Minimum eight (8) years' experience with federal and or/congressional relations legislative activities that impacts the organization. Experience influencing government policy/legislative direction and public opinion, to improve the organizations' well being .

  • Master's Degree in Public Policy or related field
  • Previous work in Congressional/Executive branch experience

SUMMARY

The Federal Relations Director Serves as principal liaison with federal agencies in support of WMATA's policy and financial priorities. Leads agency wide coordination in support of federal, state, and local grant funding to support WMATA's capital and operating funding needs. Provides policy analysis to support accurate, consistent, and timely internal and external communications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Serves as principal liaison with federal agencies in support of WMATA's policy and financial priorities. Working with Department of Transportation (DOT), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Government Accounting Office (GAO), White House, and other agencies as needed. Communications regularly with key staff at US DOT, Federal Transit Administration (FTA), DHS, and the White House. Provides timely and thorough updates to federal agencies on WMATA's capital program.
    • Leads Agency wide coordination in support of federal, state, and local grant funding to support WMATA's capital and operating funding needs. Coordinates with capital budget

    office on federal grant applications to ensure persuasive and timely submissions. Tracks federal, state, and local grant opportunities. Provides direction to Government Relations (GOVR) officers on state and local grant funding.
  • Attends Washington Metrorail Safety Commission board meetings to monitor and track. Provides support of Chief Safety Officer, serving as a liaison to federal agencies. Provides EVP External Relations and VP Government Relations with reports on WMSC activities and policy issues.
  • orks with regional stakeholders in support of federal funding priorities. Provides updates to coalition stakeholders on federal activities. Assists in leading reauthorization of federal dedicated funding regional stakeholder activities.
  • Works with VP Government Relations on policy development i.e., Surface Transportation Reauthorization Serves as GOVR liaison with internal and external stakeholders engaged in Sustainability issues i.e., Electric Bus.
