Events Manager, Stearns Center for Teaching and LearningThe Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking an experienced and engaged Events Manager to provide operations leadership for our signature events as well as daily coordination and management of a wide range of faculty support programs. The office coordinates events ranging in size from 400+ participants at our annual Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference to individual consulting with faculty or local area units. The office is faculty-facing in support of Mason's goal of providing quality, high-impact learning for all students, and collaborates with other offices such as Undergraduate Education, Graduate Education, and Faculty Affairs.About the Position:The primary purpose of this position is to oversee all event planning and provide programming support for a range of faculty development initiatives at the Stearns Center through 1) event scheduling, planning, execution, and assessment, in both on-site and virtual modalities; 2) coordination, marketing, and communication support for programs and events, including related calendar coordination, publicity materials, social media outreach, and webpage maintenance; and 3) client management and program assessment. Our events range from formal on-campus ceremonies to sixty-minute virtual workshops; the Events Manager also supports our ongoing programming for faculty such as awards and recognitions, faculty-led learning communities, and asynchronous videos and web guides.The Events Manager works closely with the Stearns Center's Office Manager in support of the daily activities of the Center. These two positions communicate regularly with the Director for Digital Learning and the Director for Teaching Excellence regarding resource needs and allocation, as well as budget planning and operation of the Center's suite of offices and meeting spaces.Responsibilities:This position reports directly to the Director for Teaching Excellence. Duties include but are not limited to:Event planning and management of annual Innovations Conference, from recruiting and organizing proposals, to registration and site arrangements, to conference-day oversight;Planning and management of mid-scale programming (such as teaching and learning academies, faculty learning communities, awards evaluations and celebration events) and small-scale programming (such as workshops, teaching circles, recognitions or certifications, and committees);Marketing and communications support for events, programs, and resources across multiple platforms, print and online, individual and social media;Coordinating with Stearns Center staff as well as campus offices, sponsors, and vendors, in planning and execution of events and programs;Budgeting and purchasing related to events and programs;Tracking and reporting of nominations, applications, participation, and client feedback; andSupervising student and non-student wage workers and managing their schedules and workload.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant education and experience;Significant experience in planning and managing large- and small-scale events; andDemonstrated proficiency in basic office software, including Microsoft Office products, as well as multimedia software (such as Adobe Creative Suite or WordPress) and/or project management tools (such as MS Planner or Zoho).Preferred Qualifications:Attention to detail, as evidenced by project experience that required accuracy in public materials, back-end datasets, and/or coordination of multiple offices or multi-layered events;Time management and project management skills, as evidenced by repeated experience successfully keeping multiple and overlapping projects on track;Written communication skills, as evidenced by experience communicating independently and successfully to a range of stakeholders, such as those in faculty, administrative, service, community, and/or vendor offices;Interpersonal skills, as evidenced by experience collaborating and interacting with event and content designers as well as clients, participants, and supporting offices or services;Experience writing and developing promotional materials, including various print and online modalities;Experience managing budgets, and tracking income and expenses;Flexibility and a growth mindset, as evidenced in ongoing acquisition of new knowledge, skills, and abilities related to planning, design, and support for events and programs; andExperience in a fast-paced small office and/or in a higher education office setting.
