  • Under supervision of industrial electrical supervisor, plans and guides the work of a crew consisting of apprentice and journeyman level industrial electrical workers.
  • Participates in the maintenance and repair of electrical control panels and electrical circuits, motors, distribution centers, breakers, pumps, motor controls, switch gears, relays, regulators, and other electrical or electronic equipment.
  • Monitors the inventory of repair and replacement parts, supplies and initiates purchase requests as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and procedures; Diagnoses and troubleshoots electrical circuits where a blueprint or schematic may not be available.
  • Creates schematics and inserts into the plant online O&M manuals.
  • Troubleshoots complex electrical problems on motors up to 1250 HP and generators up to 2500KW.
  • Installs and programs variable frequency drives; performs a variety of highly skilled tasks in the maintenance of 3-phase low and medium voltage up to 4160 volts for industrial electrical equipment.
  • Participates as an organizer and leader in the maintenance, repair, rebuild, or rehabilitation of the plant electrical equipment and control systems, utilizes wastewater related computer software to maintain work orders, requisition parts, supplies, and online O&M.
  • Makes necessary repairs and replacements, and tests effectiveness of corrective action; installs, modifies, and replaces circuits, controls, motors, and other electrical equipment in accordance with electrical code and safety guidelines.
  • Installs circuits for power, lighting and equipment using all types of wiring methods (rigid metal conduits and conductors).
  • Responds to routine and emergency service calls after normal working hours, performs related duties as required.


Illustrative Duties

  • Troubleshoots the most complex high voltage equipment, control and power system failures to determine the cause and corrective action required;
  • Performs inspections of power distribution centers, motor control centers and other electrical control panels and equipment;
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems and equipment up to 5000 volts and 4000 amps;
  • Makes necessary repairs and replacements, and tests effectiveness of corrective action;
  • Troubleshoots, repairs and/or installs main switchboards, main and branch circuits breakers, disconnects and wiring devices such as switches, convenience receptacles and dedicated receptacles, possibly without the aid of a blueprint or schematic because of equipment age;
  • Leads and performs major or complex installations and repair projects;
  • Performs predictive and preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations on electrical equipment;
  • Utilizes computerized maintenance management and/or Enterprise Asset Management system to maintain records of work required, work performed, work hours and repair parts and materials used;
  • Utilizes Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems to troubleshoot electrical problems;
  • Utilizes Variable Frequency Drives and Programmable Logic Controllers to troubleshoot and make repairs;
  • Plans, assigns and oversees the work of more junior industrial electricians as well as daily
  • training of the less experienced industrial electricians and provides input to supervisor for performance appraisals;
  • Responsible for compliance with safety standards and regulations on the assigned shift and work station;
  • Maintains records and inventory of repair and replacement parts and supplies to ensure availability of parts to minimize down-time of equipment;
  • Effectively communicates with customers, employees and supervisors;
  • Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;
  • Reports and monitors unsafe working conditions;
  • Complies with safety competencies.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or a GED issued by a state department of education or equivalent and six years of experience as an industrial electrician.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • A valid driver's license.
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Master Electrician's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a pre-employment physical and annual thereafter, a criminal background check, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Subject to 24 hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime. Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste or environments generating methane gas. Ability to distinguish different color wiring.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in the industrial electrical field and a minimum of two years of experience as lead industrial electrician.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Capable of climbing ladders and steps. Capable of lifting 50 pounds. Capable of adequate color perception working conditions may include inclement weather, as well as being exposed to hazardous. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
