AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP's reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP's mission and value through one, integrated voice.

Executes copyediting activities for written and/or spoken content. Guarantees all such content meets grammatical, typographical, branding, and style standards and guidelines for both print and web. Collaborates with editorial teams to ensure written content aligns with enterprise brand strategy and brand architecture. Manages project teams including internal and external stakeholders and vendors to deliver on editorial goals and deadlines. Oversees administrative tasks as necessary such as organizing meetings and processing technology requests. Collaborates with management to identify opportunities to streamline copyediting processes and develop new procedures that support the business unit/department.

Responsibilities

  • Provides copyediting activities for the organization's content-producing platforms.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and other partners to ensure content aligns with the organization's priorities and mission.
  • Coordinates, assigns, monitors, and executes requests for copyediting from multiple internal stakeholders.
  • Manages vendors, monitors budget, and coordinates the onboarding/training of new copy editors.
  • Provides input and feedback for developing content management systems and workflows.
  • Manages the electronic AP Stylebook, coordinates subscriptions, and customizes entries to conform to the organization's house style.
  • Stays current on media trends and content best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in liberal art, journalism or communications.
  • 5+ years of professional experience working a national newspaper or magazine.
  • Broad knowledge of editorial and copy editing skills and libel issues.
  • Deep knowledge of CPS/Censhare, Adobe InCopy and Microsoft Office using Macintosh is preferred.
  • Proficient at conflict resolution without disruption to the workflow.
  • Significant project management and organizational skills and comfortable with working in a matrixed management structure.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships across a large organization necessary to reach business objectives.
  • Good oral/written presentation skills; including the ability to maintain efficiency under pressure and to successfully prioritize assignments and deadlines.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
