GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Provide graphic design support for all departments - including events, publications (book projects and the American Journal of Public Health), policy center, development, membership, and government relations—on a wide variety of projects. Manage assigned projects and develop an effective communication channel between the designer and the internal client, Logo design and branding of APHA initiatives. Carry out APHA style guidelines for the APHA brand as a whole. Design print and interactive marketing collateral. Design and layout house advertisements for the Association’s print and interactive products including interactive reports. Design APHA Annual Meeting graphics (logo, show treatment, branding, icons, banners, various screens, etc.). Design posters, display signs, t-shirts, web banners and book covers. Work with the printer to get the best quote for the client’s projects. Research and order photographs for books and other projects. Keep up to date with copyright and permission restrictions on photo usage. Keep up to date on graphic design software tools and techniques. Perform other duties as assigned.

College degree in English, graphic design, marketing or a related field preferred and at least 3 years relevant experience in Graphic Design along with a portfolio. Excellent Macintosh or PC experience and strong skills in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. Knowledge of print/interactive publications, print buying, and the production process is desirable. Experience in the production of web graphics desired. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proofreading. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining high-quality work is required. Ability to work independently or in a team environment and deal tactfully with other staff. The candidate must be a well-organized, detail-oriented team player. Must be able to travel occasionally. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.

Position is based in downtown DC near several metro stations. Hybrid work environment.

Hours: 35 hours a week, full-time, Monday - Friday (daytime).  Number of openings: 1.
