Duties

  • You will conduct on-site safety, maintenance and Code compliance evaluations of boilers, water heaters, and unfired pressure vessels (UPV )located at Navy and Marine Corp activities.
  • You will conduct on-site investigations to determine the condition of equipment, cause of inefficient operation, failure, malfunction, or accident.
  • You will advise plant of maintenance personnel inwriting, and in advance of any site visit, of the tests and operations to be conducted, safety precautions to be observed, and or their degree of participation during the evaluation process.
  • You will ensure that plant personnel have completed all preliminary cleaning, and safety precautions per instructions, prior to commencing boiler evaluation.
  • You will direct the performance of acceptance tests, and evaluate all newly installed/constructed boilers, boiler plants, heating plants, utility plants, waste heat plants, and unfired pressure vessels.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting maintenance, safety and code compliance checks for boilers, water heaters, unfired pressure vessels to determine safety code compliance; 2) Determining corrective actions required for deficiencies to ensure functional, safe boilers, water heaters, unfired pressure vessels; 3) Using specialized test equipment for boiler combustion analysis to ensure boilers are operating within required parameters; and 4) Directing Performance Tests of new equipment to ensure proper installation and operation.
