Duties

The incumbent serves as a Supervisory Nurse Consultant on a multi-disciplinary team that oversees regulated cancer trials conducted under federal regulations, including clinical research, medical and radiological devices, biological products, or vaccinations.
  • Serve as the supervisor of the OSRO operational team, and manages the duties assignment of the team, problem solves complex issues regarding OSRO operations (clinical monitoring, essential regulatory document assessment and other Sponsor obligations).
  • Provide consultative and advisory expertise in operational, human subject protection, regulatory, medical and clinical research in the planning and implementation of NCI supported studies or other activities.
  • Lead and provide assistance in clinical trial design and implementation and identifies and resolves clinical, ethical and logistical problems and issues that might impede implementation or successful completion of the study.
  • Participate in clinical trial protocol development and review.
  • Coordinate the development of training and clinical research policy standards among the various organizational components within the NCI clinical research program and assists with implementation of training and educational efforts.
  • Determine the need for and directs the preparation of technical and administrative guides and standards to accomplish the operational objectives of clinical sites and encourages utilization of outreach programs.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS : In order to qualify for a Supervisory Nurse Consultant GS-610-15 position, you must possess the following:

A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
AND
You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or you obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing leadership and direction to a staff involved in supporting clinical research in a research hospital setting; developing implementation plans for clinical research initiatives; assisting and advising on unresolved, sensitive and controversial clinical protocol issues; and developing policies and procedures related to clinical research support.
