Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA)

An Overview
The part-time Grant Coordinator will assist the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria (SAPCA) in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of coalition operations by supporting on-going tasks related to the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (STOP) grant action plan.

The candidate should have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of coalition organization and administration; thorough knowledge of the dynamics of substance abuse; thorough knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, and rationale of youth development programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coalition members, elected officials, co-workers, and the public; and ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
The Opportunity
About the Department
The Center for Children and Families (CCF) provides programs and services for Behavioral Health, Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Child Welfare & Child Protective Services, Early Childhood and Youth Development. The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandria, housed within the department, is an alliance of parents, youth, schools, City health and recreation agencies, media, nonprofits, businesses, policymakers and law enforcement whose mission is to engage diverse sectors of the community in collaborative, cross-cultural and comprehensive substance abuse prevention efforts that result in a reduction of underage substance use and abuse in the City of Alexandria.
Minimum & Additional Requirements
Four-Year College Degree in public or business administration, and one year of experience in management analysis, customer services resolving end-user problems, or a closely-related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of experience in the field of prevention of youth risk behaviors; At least one year of experience providing support to community groups/coalitions; At least one year of experience supporting grant-funded initiatives.
Notes
*This is a multi-year grant-funded position, which will terminate upon expiration of the grant if funding is not renewed or no alternative funding is identified. *
This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: Criminal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; and driver’s license.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, with occasional evening meetings and weekend events.

The Opportunity
- Support the implementation of the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act (STOP) grant action plan.
- Provide staff support to SAPCA Coordinator and SAPCA;
- Assist in carrying out initiatives and activities;
- Support the preparation of grant reports, memoranda, and other correspondence;
- Research youth substance abuse prevention resources, topics and funding;
- Represent SAPCA on various committees and task forces as requested;
- Provide workshops and outreach on SAPCA and youth substance abuse prevention topics to youth and adults as requested;
- Maintain social media outlets;
- Support collaborations with community partners;
- Manage budget for multi-year grant;
- Support volunteer recruitment efforts;
- Attend trainings and meetings;
- Perform related work as required by SAPCA.
