Sr. Risk Associate, Corporate Banking Risk Advisory

This role is part of the Commercial Risk team, which supports Non-Credit Risk Management for the Commercial Bank and its businesses. Departmental functions include: policies and procedures, training and awareness, operational risk framework, process identification and standards, control monitoring and testing, operational risk reporting, issue and event management, business continuity management, information security, third party management, risk identification, assessment, mitigation and reporting. Commercial Risk interacts with internal and external partners for Audit and credit reviews, Regulatory exams and compliance assessments and is the point of contact for all second line operational risk management including business continuity, third party management, information security, access management, model governance, SOX and Basel readiness.

The Role:

Commercial Risk is the first line of defense managing Non-Credit risk across the Commercial Bank lines of business, and its Risk Advisors are accountable for managing all facets of Non-Credit risk by providing risk services to our business partners. This associate will support the Corporate Banking Risk Advisors in their day-to-day activities in helping to manage risk for the Corporate Banking line of business within Commercial Banking.

As an associate on the Corporate Banking Risk Advisory Team, your role will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to work autonomously, identify areas of opportunity, manage to changing priorities; and a desire to help the Commercial Bank businesses prosper while also adequately managing non-Credit risk.

Strong problem solving, integrative thinking, prioritization and communication skills are essential for role success. Additionally, building win-win partnerships with multiple business stakeholders as well as across Commercial Risk work streams and teammates, while adapting to and managing change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, are key for this role.

Job Responsibilities:
  • As a first line of defense liaison, work with Commercial Risk team leads to coordinate business interactions that add value and optimize efficiency for business leaders
  • Manage tasks and activities related to proactive risk management initiatives to reduce the residual risk within the business
  • Act as an independent issue manager on all events and issues related to the business, including coordination of remediation activities
  • Create, edit and manage multiple facets of business unit risk reporting
  • Deliver materials requested in audits and exams with various stakeholders across the lines of defense
  • Support Risk Advisors with ad-hoc deliverables and investigations
  • Provide excellent service to both business partners and Commercial teammates
  • Execute processes and deliverables that support internal governance processes
  • Manage, implement and deliver on a subset of the program deliverables including drafting communications, writing and editing policies, procedures, business continuity plans, audit remediation responses, etc.
  • Support risk assessments, associated remediations, and control build-out


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or military experience
  • At least 2 years of Financial Services, Risk Management, or Operations experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of experience in Risk Management, or at least 4 years of experience in Compliance or Audit
  • At least 2 years of experience in Commercial Banking
  • Strong desktop software skills (Office, Google Docs, spreadsheets, etc.)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Location is New York City: $96,254 - $113,558 for Sr. Risk Associate

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
