Overview
Northwest Federal Credit Union is seeking qualified interns for our paid Summer Internship Program at our Corporate Office in Herndon, VA. Our summer internship program is designed to provide college students the opportunity to learn about Northwest Federal and gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional environment that aligns with their career goals. This is an 8-week internship program starting on June 5, 2023.
The Employee Relations & Engagement team is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative and resourceful intern to support the department across various Human Resource functions.
The Human Resources Intern will report to the Sr. Employee Relations & Engagement Specialist and have the opportunity to collaborate with various other areas of HR such as: Benefits, Recruiting, Talent Development, and DE&I. The intern will gain valuable experience and knowledge by assisting with day-to-day tasks as well as contributing toward a diverse scope of departmental initiatives, programs, and special projects.

Responsibilities
- Contribute toward building out content and resources for internal HR site
- Assist with New Hire Orientation facilitation and development of new onboarding program
- Support the creation and distribution of HR communications
- Contribute toward the planning and execution of events, recognition initiatives, and benefits/wellness seminars
- Assist with organizing and compiling Performance Management documentation
- Develop Employee Relations & Engagement related tools and resources for manager trainings
- Research employment laws and best practices
- Provide general assistance with HR administrative tasks
- Complete other duties or special projects as assigned
- Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
Qualifications
Required
- Must be enrolled in a credited university at the junior/senior level or recently graduated college within the last six months in pursuit of a degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Communications, Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Average 3.0 GPA (transcripts required)
- Must be available for our 8-week session from June 5th through August 4th - 40 hours a week
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, organization, time management, and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain a professional attitude and work well with others
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite - specifically: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Ability to act with discretion, tact and diplomacy
Preferred
- Experience creating graphics and visual aids using programs such as PowerPoint, Canva, or Adobe preferred
