Salary Range: $50,250 - $81,770

The Department of Finance is recruiting for an Accountant/Auditor I to assist in the tax billing and collection process. The employee will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely tax billing, collection, allocation, and disbursement reports ensuring the accuracy of data for use in the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The employee must understand Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) accounting standards and requirements related to the local government as a tax collector. The employee is expected to have strong customer service skills to deal tactfully and effectively with internal and external customers and will be expected to be proficient in using ERP accounting systems and other current technology.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinate, review, and post property tax transactions to ensure that all transactions are timely and completely accounted for.

• Prepare reports for the billing, collection, allocation, and disbursement of funds.

• Prepare analysis of reports and make recommendations regarding the analysis.

• Develop, plan, and perform various property tax billing review programs.

• Perform detailed account analysis and reconciliation of accounts in preparation of fiscal year-end closings.

• Assist non-accounting employees in researching and/or correcting records in Oracle.

• A criminal background and credit history check will be conducted on the selected candidate prior to appointment and will be a significant factor in the hiring decision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting; or a bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field with a major of accounting coursework. Experience: One (1) year of experience performing professional accounting work.

Substitution: Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) may be substituted for a degree in accounting or a major in Accounting.

Preferred Criteria

All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated Qualified, placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered interview. Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following:

1) Experience with office applications (Excel, Word) to maintain databases and perform financial and accounting analysis.

2) Complex reconciliations of transactions in multiple systems; of general ledger and subsidiary transactions; and/or complex accounting transactions

3) Experience developing, planning, and/or executing audit/review programs for business processes.

4) Meeting deadlines and communicating complex accounting issues to non-financial colleagues.

Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on Eligible List as a Transfer candidate and may be considered for interview.
