We operate a low and high ropes course spread across 30 acres on the GMU Science & Technology campus in Manassas. The EDGE is a team-building and leadership development challenge course. We serve local schools, Mason students, and adult groups in the private, non-profit, and public sectors. We operate 4 aerial elements and 30 low ropes elements. About the Position:Challenge Course Facilitators form the heart and soul of our organization and lead experiential, transformational activities for diverse communities. Facilitators are scheduled to work for 5-8-hour programs. Programs may occur on weekdays and weekends. Facilitators may work 5-35 hours per week, depending on their interest and the season. No prior experience in challenge course operations is necessary.Candidates who are hired must attend one of the two rounds of training listed below:The first round of training will occur on 2 evenings the week of February 27th, all day March 4, and between 3/18 - 3/26 (times will vary, depending on candidates' availability).The second round of training will occur March 20 - 24, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.Responsibilities:Effectively lead groups through team building activities and reflections;Properly set up and manage safety on the ropes course;Provide for the physical and emotional well-being of participants;Attend all required trainings;Respond to emergency situations as they arise;Inspect and set up high and low elements for daily use;Ensure proper use of equipment; andCommunicate effectively with chaperones, youth, adults, and other facilitators.Required Qualifications:Ability to attend all training sessions (see above, minimum of 40 hours);Ability to work a minimum of two days per week (Sunday through Saturday) between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm;Current First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of start date; andThis position is subject to a criminal background investigation; employment is contingent upon the successful completion of this process.Preferred Qualifications:Experience leading groups or team building activities;Experience with challenge course or adventure programs, including ground initiatives, low ropes, high ropes activities, or rock climbing; andDegree in or pursuing a degree in education, recreation, or related fields. Will work with academic department to fulfill internship requirements as desired.
