Job Announcement

The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' access to health services and information. The FCHD Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is seeking a self-motivated, team-oriented Nutritionist Assistant I. Duties are performed under the supervision of a Senior Public Health Nutritionist.

This position:
  • Provides administrative support for the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program
  • Determines eligibility and enrolls eligible participants in the program
  • Assists WIC participants by phone and in-person
  • Completes all required documentation
  • Obtains clinical data and conducts clinical tests.
  • Participates in community education health fairs throughout the county, as assigned.
  • This position may require travel to multiple WIC sites on an as needed basis.
Note: This is a grant-funded merit position. This job announcement may be used to fill m ultiple full-time Nutritionist Assistant I positions.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education plus one year of customer service experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Valid driver's license.
  • AED required within 60 days of hire.
  • CPR required within 60 days of hire.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.
  • This position may require travel to multiple WIC sites on an as needed basis.
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a child protective services registry, a sanction screening, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Tuberculosis test required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deal tactfully with clients of diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Models outstanding customer service skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams) and other information systems such as an electronic health records system.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, and requires walking, standing, sitting (for long periods of time), and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; may be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Generally, works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. Ability to drive a vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
