Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

Training
  • Responsible for the daily operations of the Simulation Lab to include scheduling, orientation of students and faculty, maintaining attendance records, and providing technological support.
  • Maintains security of simulation lab environment including the equipment, supplies, and simulation technology.
  • The operations officer is responsible for evaluating technological changes and/or new developments in the field of simulation and making the required updates to course content and providing training for clinical instructors on a regular basis.
  • Provides technical support for a wide variety of highly sophisticated and complex simulation equipment including anatomic models, task trainers, screen-based simulators, full-body computerized patient simulators and virtual reality systems.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and remedies user issues, equipment failure, and network interface problems. Initiates work orders.
  • Works closely with Medical Media, Biomedical Engineering and OI&T to maintain and repair equipment used to provide high-quality education, training, and simulation activities.
  • Prepares for education, training, and simulation activities by preparing simulation technology and supplies, reviewing lab policies and procedures, obtaining consents, and setting up simulation control rooms, equipment, and AV equipment.
  • Manages lab supplies and simulation equipment as evidenced by keeping an inventory of supplies/equipment, organizing, ordering, and restocking, and assessing the needs of the end-users.
  • Works with the hospital logistics department and pharmacy to acquire used, expired, or retired equipment, supplies, and medication (per policy).
  • Performs annual equipment inventory per hospital procedures.
  • Responsible for the preventive maintenance on equipment following manufacturers recommendations; ensures warranties and service contracts are honored.
  • Works with the education department to conduct clinical simulation training and education in simulated environments in support of curricula designed by clinical experts and clinical subject matter experts.
  • Functions as the subject manner expert on simulation training modalities and trains clinical experts and other clinical instructors on how to incorporate simulation into training curriculum.
  • Evaluates the performance of instructors and simulation technicians, provides constructive feedback to improve training outcomes.
Training Audit/Tracking
  • Ensures the simulation lab meets regulatory compliance with The Joint Commission, Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Resuscitation Education Initiative (REdI) Program and other regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinates collaborative research and certification projects and ensure that simulation lab has current certification according to OSHA and/or hospital regulations.
  • Responsible for data collection for research studies including documenting information, collating, and assisting inanalysis of data. Adheres to all protocols set in place by the simulation lab.
  • Maintains professional development by attending meetings to maintain current with clinical simulation technology and use; maintains current knowledge of clinical simulation equipment catalogues and operation manuals; reviews journals, abstracts, and scientific literature in existing simulation application technologies, including educational principles.
  • The incumbent exercises professional judgment to interpret evidence-based practice and existing policy; makes recommendations for policy and curriculum changes.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/30/2023.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

Quality Ranking Factor: Demonstrated expertise and work experience in professional learning, curriculum development, instructional design and coaching models, and content creation for multicultural audiences in face-to-face, virtual, and blended learning environments.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related. OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the Master's degree level.
Preferred: Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements: No special physical demands such as above average ability, dexterity, or strength are required to perform the work. Work is sedentary and the incumbent may sit comfortably.
