IRB Compliance ManagerThe George Mason University Office of Research invites applications for an IRB Compliance Manager. The office staff provide services that ensure the Mason research and scholarship community is knowledgeable about and complies with federal and other relevant regulations that pertain to the ethical and responsible conduct of research. The office staff also identify compliance risks and communicate those risks to the Mason community. Finally, the Research Support team monitors and investigates instances of noncompliance, demonstrating the University's commitment to practice to the highest ethical standards in research and scholarship.About the Position:The IRB Compliance Manager is responsible for the management and execution of Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement component of George Mason's Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). The role is integral to the program's objective of ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and institutional regulations with a focus on education and collaboration with researchers.The Compliance Manager reports to the Director, HRPP. In conjunction with the Director, the Compliance Manager is responsible for managing all quality monitoring activities related to research studies approved by the IRB as well as internal IRB processes. With other team members, the Compliance Manager will develop and deliver educational content and resources. The Compliance Manager will also coordinate the implementation of quality improvement initiatives as needed.Responsibilities:The primary responsibilities of the IRB Compliance Manager include the following:In conjunction with the HRPP Director, designs, implements, and manages the IRB's quality assurance and quality improvement program;Conducts quality reviews and/or audits of IRB-approved research studies;Performs quality assurance reviews of internal IRB processes;Develops and delivers educational content to researchers, students, IRB members, and IRB staff;Acts as a resource for IRB members by providing guidance on regulatory matters; andServes as a member of the IRB and may be tasked with performing reviews of IRB submissions.Required Qualifications:Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience;Considerable experience (generally 5+ years) in IRB operations;Excellent communication skills, the ability to facilitate complex conversations about integrity and ethics;Extensive working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to Human Subjects Research protections; Strong problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to make decisions independently;Ability to take initiative and simultaneously manage multiple projects with minimal supervision;Highly organized and able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; andActive Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.Preferred Qualifications:Experience developing IRB policies and procedures; andExperience conducting quality reviews and/or audits.Candidates must be one of the following:A citizen of the United States;A person who is a lawful permanent resident of the United States (a "Green Card" holder);A person who is a "protected individual" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a) (3); orA person who is otherwise able to become generally eligible to receive unclassified technical data pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
