Duties

  • Serves as a first-level supervisor and spends time mentoring, supporting, and overseeing Neuroscience Content and Strategy Branch (NCSB) staff and activities, engaging in the full range of supervisory duties.
  • Directs the ongoing operations of NCSB programs and activities. Oversees the activities of NCSB staff, ensuring prompt, practical, and technically sound responses to requests for services and/or information.
  • Provides strategic coordination and communications planning for NINDS-supported neuroscience research programs.
  • Supports communication planning and related activities for NINDS and on behalf of trans-NIH neuroscience initiatives, including the BRAIN Initiative and NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience Research.
  • Collaborates with NINDS and NIH neuroscience ICO leadership to lead trans-NIH coordination and staff support of high-level, trans-NIH neuroscience research programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of progress and issues in neuroscience research programs and policies through communication with program staff, participation at scientific meetings, NIH workshops, and other NINDS planning and implementation efforts.
  • Develops and/or reviews digital content, print materials, presentations, talking points, and other ONCE-produced products, ensuring that the information and messages are translated for the primary audience.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-14 level if you meet the following qualification requirements:

Basic Education Requirement:

You must possess a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).

Additional Qualifications Requirement:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: leading the communications and coordination efforts for large scale scientific programs; analyzing and evaluating scientific policy issues affecting an organization and biomedical research community; implementing processes and policies for scientific program operations involving a variety of stakeholders and covering complex/controversial areas; monitoring advances and trends in science to identify opportunities for improvements in research program and agendas; translates research priorities into implementation plans and strategies.
