Heavy Equipment Operator - Street Cleaning Division
An Overview
A Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy, multi-purpose equipment with complex controls requiring a high degree of skill and manipulative ability. The work in this class requires considerable skill, especially in constructing grades and in operating heavy equipment efficiently to avoid stopping the progress of related operations. Standard procedures are followed and the work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation. This class differs from that of Equipment Operator II in the higher degree of skill required for finished grading and comparable tasks, and the greater possible consequences of error in the form of damage to more expensive equipment. Supervision may be exercised over Laborers I, II and III and/or Equipment Operators I and II. Tasks are performed under the general supervision of a Labor Supervisor or a Superintendent.
