Duties

Credible Messengers assist the professional supervision staff with case and interventions management, and support the successful completion of supervision by, among other things,
  • Sharing experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as a formerly justice involved person that successfully completed supervision to coach, mentor, and guide individuals on how to achieve a successful supervision outcome.
  • Acting as an accountability partner helping individuals to identify and establish goals for successful supervision, remain compliant, and monitor progress.
  • Modeling pro-social behaviors, healthy decision-making, coping techniques, and self-help strategies.
  • Acting as a resource for identifying and helping individuals to access educational, vocational, housing and employment opportunities, as well as community and other services.
  • Assisting individuals with repairing relationships with family and community.
  • Providing social and emotional support.
  • Performing other supervision-related duties as assigned.

  • Background security investigation, drug test, and favorable adjudication
  • Previously incarcerated, previously incarcerated and successfully completed parole or supervised release, or successfully completed probation, and was not re-arrested.
  • This is not a virtual position; you must live within or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance of the duty location.


Qualifications

GS-03 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
You may qualify at the GS-03 level if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. At least one year of education above high school at an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college, or university.
OR

B. At least six months of general experience, paid or unpaid, that demonstrates an ability to learn and perform the work of the position. Examples include working in customer service industries (i.e., retail, hospitality industries, volunteer work, mentoring, community-based organization, etc.).

OR

C. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and general experience may be used to meet the total experience requirements.

GS-04 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
You may qualify at the GS-04 level if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. At least two years of education above high school at an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college, or university (

OR

B. At least six months of general experience which is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 level using rules, processes, procedures, or operations related to restorative justice promoting positive second chances; or skill in interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and requires familiarity with a personal computer and other technology applicable to online searches and applications;

OR

C. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and general and specialized experience may be used to meet the total experience requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
I certify that I meet the following criteria:

(a) formerly incarcerated individual, and have not been re-arrested; or
(b) formerly incarcerated individual, have successfully completed a period of parole or supervised release (e.g., was not discharged from supervision due to lack of compliance), and have not been re-arrested; or
(c) successfully completed a period of probation (e.g., was not discharged from supervision due to a lack of compliance) and have not been re-arrested; AND
(d) have demonstrated integrity and the ability to turn my own life around.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Credible Messengers may be assigned to work in CSOSA's Office of Community Supervision & Intervention Services (OCSIS), its Reentry & Sanctions Center (RSC), or other CSOSA departments as needed.

This is a temporary appointment not to exceed six (6) months. CSOSA, at its discretion, may extend the position one time for an additional period NTE 6 months, without further competition.

Bargaining Unit Status: Not Eligible
