Duties

  • You will advise and provide technical guidance to the Geo Readiness Center (GRC) to support programs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) products.
  • You will maintain a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database in support of region customers.
  • You will develop program policy and guidance procedures to govern initiatives and policies for assigned programs.
  • You will coordinate project activities in the area of Geographical Information System (GIS ) technology to support work efforts.

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
A Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.

OR:

A Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

For GS-07:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties such as: 1) Utilizing data sources that including Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) collection, CAD data, other GIS data, imagery digitizing, and digital elevation point data, to create, modify or transform into current SDSFIE compliant Navy GIS data model. 2) Performing research (field and database) to reconcile Navy GIS records with Navy Real Property records.
3) Assisting project managers with input to enterprise wide GIS efforts or cross-regional teams. 4) Assisting project managers with training as assigned to facilitate the use of GIS tools across the organization. 5) Reviewing and updating cartographic symbology and layers for standard maps views. 6) Assisting in the production and maintenance of standardized map and data products for quarterly publication.

FOR GS-09:
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties such as: 1) Utilizing data sources that including Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) collection, CAD data, other GIS data, imagery digitizing, and digital elevation point data, to create, modify or transform into current SDSFIE compliant Navy GIS data model. 2) Utilizing GIS knowledge and experience to review and update existing best practices and standard operating procedures to assure effective management of Navy GIS data across the region. 3) Performing research (field and database) to reconcile Navy GIS records with Navy Real Property records. 4) Assisting project managers with input to enterprise wide GIS efforts or cross-regional teams. 5) Providing training and outreach as assigned to facilitate the use of GIS tools across the organization. 6) Compiling and maintaining standardized map and data products for quarterly publication.

Physical Demands:
The work is sedentary in an office setting and physical effort is required one or two weeks a month when field work is accomplished which consists of walking, bending, and climbing during outside field work for site visits, GPS data collection and performing UAV projects. Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs for UAV projects and data collection. Driving is also required to visit various sites.

Work Environment:
Work is performed either in a typical office setting or outside field work. All field work requires observance of all safety precautions. Some field work may require protective clothing. All field work typically consists of field trips for one or two weeks a month. Routine overnight travel to US Navy sites and detachments is required.

A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Relocation expenses (i.e. PCS) or relocation incentives as described in 5 USC 5753 may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations depending on command funding.
