It is our goal, as students make their way through the adjudication process, they will leave that process as better educated students, better all around members of the University community, and better global citizens.Responsibilities:The Associate Director of Student Conduct is instrumental in fostering an educational climate supportive of the mission of the University that encourages positive and healthy conduct choices to promote student learning and personal integrity. Student development is addressed through programs encouraging appropriate behavior, as well as through enforcement programs that respond to violations of behavioral standards. In all instances, conduct activity is considered to be educational and is designed to develop citizens that will be contributors to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the global community.Serve as a hearing officer for violations of the Code of Student Conduct; respond to student violations with an educational and developmental perspective, and promote the health and safety of all members within the Mason University community;Provide statistical analysis, produce reports, and distribute general information on student behaviors to campus stakeholders;Serve as an appeals officer for students requesting administrative and procedural review of cases;Oversee and coordinate student conduct data for the generation of the Annual Security Report (Clery Report);Assist in the facilitation of various resolution processes as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct including referrals for administrative hearings, sexual misconduct, Community Adjudication Board (CAB), and informal resolution practices (such as Restorative Justice and Mediation);Participate in both annual and ongoing reviews of the Code of Conduct and assist in the research and implementation of best conduct practices at George Mason University;Advise student hearing boards as necessary;Participate in regional, state, and national professional development opportunities pertinent to the field;Work to improve office efficiency using technology and the data management system (Guardian) including web site content and development;Perform University Life divisional roles and responsibilities including serving on search committees, participating in collaborative projects (i.e., alcohol and drug policy development, professional development, recruitment search committees, etc.), and representing the Office of Student Conduct within, and external to the University community; andPerform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:A master's degree in college student personnel or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;Demonstrated practice in the area of student education and development and/or conduct system administration is required (minimum of three years is strongly desired);Direct experience in working with students of concern, educational programming and policy development, as well as current knowledge of best conduct practices (including Clery reporting, Title IX, and other regulations) is preferred; andAbility to work within the diverse Mason community and with students from diverse identities and demographics.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated initiative and leadership;Positive outlook and willingness to assist and collaborate with colleagues;Excellent oral and written communication skills;Strong interpersonal skills and professional maturity;Analytical and critical-thinking skills;Ability to work in an environment that involves conflict management, mediation skills, and variable hours and occasional weekend activities;Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to crisis situations and real-time incidents; andStrong skills in computer use, data management, web site management, and report-generation.
