AARP's Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. The Business Operations Assistant provides administrative-level support and completes project tasks in support of business unit/department programs or initiatives. Supports project and program activities which may include tracking budget expenses, assisting in special events, coordinating logistics, and preparing communication materials. Organizes and maintains electronic records and prepares and processes various forms.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support to a business unit or department.
  • Supports meeting administration by creating presentations, facilitating meetings, maintaining meeting schedules, and/or coordinating logistics.
  • Tracks budgets and program activities.
  • Provides support for various systems the business unit utilizes to execute work, maintains databases, and generates reports.
  • Assists with volunteer communications and the coordination of volunteer training, events, and expense management.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an Associate Degree in a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible administrative experience related to the duties of the position.
  • High degree of proficiency with MS Office Suite, spreadsheet applications, document design applications and general technical aptitude required.
  • Occasional local travel required.

  • Exhibit respect and understanding of others to maintain professional relationships.
  • Independent judgement and discretion requiring the employee to compare and evaluate various courses of conduct and make a decision (or recommend a decision to be made) after various possibilities have been considered.
  • In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
