Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is responsible for developing AARP's annual budget, three periodic financial forecasts, and multi-year financial plan. The team partners closely with the Enterprise Strategy Group to ensure financial resources are available and aligned with the strategic priorities as approved by AARP leadership and the Board. FP&A also provides an array of financial analytical services to AARP business groups, leadership and the Board.

The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis manages the development and implementation of financial budgets and forecasts, including operating revenues, expenses, and other business drivers and metrics related to the Community, State, and National Affairs (CSNA) group at AARP. Reviews group performance and business processes to ensure accuracy and compliance. Develops high-value business partnerships to deliver financial solutions that significantly impact business results. Supports management in a variety of ways, including directing analyses and reporting for use in data-driven, executive decision-making. Collaborates with management to identify opportunities to streamline finance processes that support the business unit/department and enterprise.


  • Directs development of complex business and financial analysis across multiple areas of the organization. Oversees the design, development, and ongoing enhancement of detailed financial modeling to manage financial performance. 
  • Manages quarterly, annual, and multi-year budgeting and forecasting of revenue, expenses, and other financial and business metrics. 
  • Directs high value integrated solutions, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly close, financial reporting, risk and opportunity assessments, benchmarking, business case development, and operational analysis. 
  • Manages development of ongoing financial reporting and analytical tools. 
  • Leads a high performing team to perform financial analysis and consultation to maximize value and minimize risk for both new and ongoing business opportunities. Provides guidance, feedback, coaching and training, as necessary. 
  • Directs completion of market analysis of business opportunities. Monitors and reports on key business group performance and operational metrics to identify financial and business trends that drive business group management decisions, resource allocation and operational planning. 
  • Manages a cross-functional business group service team including the controller's office, procurement, legal, and internal operations teams. 
  • Leverages state of the art financial software suite to continuously improve and automate financial reporting and analysis capabilities, including data visualization. 


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline (advanced degree in Finance required).
  • 10+ years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
  • Experience managing, developing, and mentoring teams of Accounting & Finance professionals.
  • Excellent oral, written, influence, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Preferred technical competencies include Financial Planning software tools such as Oracle EPM Cloud (formerly Hyperion), Smart View, and PeopleSoft. Must be an advanced user with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Technical accounting knowledge and exposure (GAAP) preferred. CPA certification not required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic financial contributions in complex business settings. Experience working with executive and senior management to develop and implement successful strategic financial solutions.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
