An Overview:
The City of Alexandria's Health Department is looking for a Volunteer Developer who will serve as the Coordinator for the Medical Reserves Corps (MRC). The Volunteer Developer works within the Public Health Emergency Management Division. The incumbent in this position maintains and organizes the MRC's local volunteer program by focusing on recruiting, training, outreach, and retention throughout the year.

The Opportunity - Examples of Work
  • Maintain our current progress of organizing nearly 1000 local volunteers;
    Conduct more than 30 training/exercise opportunities annually;
  • Work with other organizations and departments for emergency and non-emergency events;
  • Ensure trained volunteers are ready to support AHD and the City of Alexandria during public health emergencies;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Furthermore, emphasis in collaborating and recruiting volunteers from minority, immigrant, and lower-income communities helps build these communities' abilities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies through trained, peer-leaders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

In order to qualify for the position you must possess a Four-Year College Degree; one year of experience in planning, developing, and administering a volunteer service program including recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers in pertinent social service area, including experience in public speaking and effectively communicating educational information and completion of college-level courses in public health, emergency preparedness, psychology, sociology, counseling.

Preferred Qualifications

To be considered as an ideal candidate, one should also possess all of the minimum requirements listed above as well as completion of advanced Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses; a master's degree - preferably in Emergency Management or Public Health; experience cultivating community involvement/volunteerism from faith-based organizations and community partners; experience as an organization representative at an Emergency Operation Center (EOC); and Bilingual.
