Duties

  • You will monitor the accomplishments of the fire prevention inspections of all structures and ships in the shipyard as performed by the regional service providers and/or ship forces.
  • You will provide guidance and liaison for all mutual aid municipal off-station fire and emergency service issues affecting and impacting Shipyard personnel and/or operations.
  • You will serve as the emergency point of contact for all radiological shipment emergencies involving Shipyard radioactive materials.
  • You will coordinate special training and drill requirements for emergency responders, to be provided by the Shipyard.
  • You will conduct post-incident analysis, investigations, and root cause analysis to identify program control deficiencies and direct the development and maintenance of budget requirements in support of planning and operations.
  • Your will direct and oversee research and development of emerging Fire Protection Technologies and evaluate Command Fire Prevention/Protection posture by conducting risk management assessments.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Department of Defense Fire Fighter Certification.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Providing supervisory management oversight of fire and emergency services pertaining to fire prevention programs:
  • Providing all aspects of supervisory duties/management of personnel under your cognizant.
  • Performing expert inspection, testing and maintenance of fixed fire protection systems, fire alarm and evacuation systems commonly in use in industrial facilities;
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) evaluating fire potential, and fire training;
  • Interpreting and identifying significant agency policies and practices intended to resolve issues or concerns to promote improvement efforts.
  • SME of radioactive materials and comprehensive emergency response and incident mitigation.
  • Performing Emergency Medical Services to include Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Incumbent shall have attained the Department of Defense Fire Fighter Certification as accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (or equivalent).

Incumbent must meet certification requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120(q) as Incident Commander for response to Oil and Hazardous Substance incidents while acting as Facility Incident Commander.
