I-Corps Program ManagerThe George Mason University, Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development (ORIE) invites applicants for an I-Corps Program Manager. This position is part of the Virginia Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP). The organization's state office is housed at GMU.ICAP: The Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP) is a program of the Virginia SBDC focused on helping Virginia-based technology and innovation-driven startups on their path to success. ICAP works with startups to provide support along their entire journey towards scaling - from the early idea stage, all the way through working on Series A level of funding. This is accomplished through experiential learning programs and one-on-one advising with a team of experienced entrepreneurs.George Mason University (Mason) is a partner in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Mid-South I-Corps Hub led by Vanderbilt University. Mason I-Corps will support university faculty, graduate students and post-docs across the Commonwealth of Virginia. About the Position:The I-Corps Program Manager will manage day-to-day I-Corps efforts that include the outreach, recruitment, and support work of university faculty from across the Commonwealth of Virginia. These efforts should allow for a steady flow of faculty, as well as graduate students and post-docs, into Mason's I-Corps programming and receive long-term ICAP mentorship.The position will work in partnership with the ICAP Program Coordinator and under the supervision of the ICAP Director with guidance from the I-Corp Principle Investigator. The I-Corps Program Manager will also collaborate with departments across Mason and its statewide partners including universities, incubators, accelerators and funders.Responsibilities:Manages the daily operations of Mason's I-Corps operations;Plans and executes regular in-person and virtual presentations and other outreach activities to promote I-Corps and the recruitment faculty. This work can include sending communications, making A/V preparations, and tracking attendance. This can also include working with local partners, providing training and instruction to local counterparts, and reporting any problems or issues to the ICAP Director in a timely fashion;Helps identify, schedule, and prepare speakers for I-Corps programming;Collects and organizes state and federal funding awardee data for outreach;Assists the ICAP Program Coordinator with I-Corps/ICAP cohort activities, as required;Develops and maintains relationships with key partners at universities and colleges, as well as resource partners, across the Commonwealth;Assists in the overall efforts to recruit and maintain program partnerships;Manages and organizes data collected in coordination with the ICAP Program Coordinator;Coordinates with, and assists as needed, ICAP Mentors to ensure the current status of I-Corps teams are known and forwards progress towards established goals are maintained;Assists I-Corps teams, as needed, with the platforms used within the program;Develops articles, communications, and marketing materials, focused on university researchers and other audiences, that promote the benefits and outcomes of, as well as motivate to participation in, I-Corp programming and ICAP mentorship;Coordinates efforts with other Mid-South Hub Partners, including the University of Virginia;Assists in reviewing and researching relevant best practices from NSF National Innovation Network (NIN) I-Corps and other relevant programs to use with I-Corps and ICAP;Provides support, as needed, to the ICAP Director related to the search for and application to future funding opportunities;Ensures all activities align with the mission and objectives of Mason, Virginia SBDC, ICAP, and the Mid-South Hub; andOther duties as assigned by supervisor.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills;Knowledge of entrepreneurship, commercialization, tech transfer, and Lean Startup principles;Understanding of Microsoft software;Superior customer service skills;Attention to detail;Event planning experience;A/V knowledge and skills;Ability to understand and strictly adhere to policies and procedures;Excellence in organizational and time management;Interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse management team;Must be an independent worker who can prioritize and manage simultaneous projects, is self-motivated, and well-organized;Ability to effectively use social media and online business tools;Experience as staff lead on projects and/or volunteer management;Public speaking / training experience;Proposal development and grant management experience; andAbility to work some nights and weekends.Preferred Qualifications:Master's Degree in related field (5+ years preferred);Experience in technology transfer office(s);I-Corps and/or other Lean Startup programming; andBusiness consulting/coaching experience.
