Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your experience in all of the following:
1) Experience in political risk analysis of business ventures in developing countries;
2) Experience identifying issues in at least two of the following three areas: political, economic or credit risks (e.g. due diligence, risk exposure, detailed credit analysis, market analysis, private investments); and
3) Experience working with a team under close supervision on international projects or investments while working at a political risk insurance firm, commercial bank, consulting firm, investment bank, international project development company, international financial institution, or multilateral organization.
OR
B. A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position;
OR
C. A combination of education and experience as listed above.
You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your experience in all of the following:
1) Experience in political risk analysis of business ventures in developing countries;

1) Experience in political risk analysis of business ventures in developing countries;
2) Experience identifying issues in at least two of the following three areas: political, economic or credit risks (e.g. due diligence, risk exposure, detailed credit analysis, market analysis, private investments);
3) Experience working with a team on international projects or investments while working at a political risk insurance firm, commercial bank, consulting firm, investment bank, international project development company, international financial institution, or multilateral organization; and

5) Experience negotiating political risk insurance in developing countries for execution of very complex and sensitive investment contracts.

As a Political Risk Insurance Specialist, you will:
- Contribute to a range of activities in the political risk insurance origination process, including reviewing registration letters and formal applications for political risk insurance; analyzing the nature of investment, equity and loan instruments, project agreements, and related documents.
- Perform in-depth analyses of the nature of the proposed business ventures; financial statements provided by the company or sponsors; country-related macroeconomic/microeconomic risks; risks related to project contractual obligations; eligibility, financial standing and business background of the sponsor; and other related factors.
- Assist in the preparation of required documents, memoranda and correspondence.
- Work with a team to present insurance proposals to the various approval committees.
- Assist in maintaining and expanding a business pipeline for insurance product.
