Overview
In pursuit of service excellence the Recreation Leader II performs recreation work. This position works as a recreation leader II at a revenue producing recreation facility and provides program information. This position will assist supervisors in promoting and marketing center events, programs and activities for teens/seniors. An employee in this class assists to ensure that all safety precautions and guidelines are followed. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work independently, work with other Recreation Leaders, the participants, volunteers and adults to provide a safe, fun, structured and engaging atmosphere. A strong candidate brings enthusiasm, flexibility, and excellent communication skills. Our Recreation Leader II should also be available to work Monday to Friday from 1pm. to 11pm. and some weekends as needed. An example of a schedule could be
  • Monday - 2:00pm - 6:00pm
  • Tuesday - 2:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Wednesday - 2:00pm - 6:00pm
  • Thursday - 2:00pm - 9:00pm
  • Friday - 2:00pm - 10:30pm
What You Should Bring
Each member of our team is accountable for the outstanding delivery of services that meet the identified need of the community they serve. You will ensure that all activities are fun, structured, safe and orderly. You will bring your passion and knowledge of recreation, enrichment, and community programming to working with elementary school students and teens. You will have the support of, and work under the direction of, a Recreation Coordinator. You will execute programming that meets the high standards of excellence.

The Opportunity
  • Leads a group of elementary students for the Out of School Time Program
  • Creates and delivers lesson plans to include a variety of recreation, enrichment, and STEM activities
  • Provides classroom management and behavior guidance in line with City, RPCA, and Center protocols
  • Provides guidance and direction to the additional staff assigned to your group
  • Leads outdoor field trips and activities
  • Plans two program wide OST events each year
  • Participates in, and contributes to, the planning of activities for the Teen program
  • Provides supervision and support to designated Teen hours at the Rec
  • Collaborates with Teen staff from other centers to plan 2 city-wide events
  • Assists in marketing and promotion efforts for the Teen programs
  • Participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and workshops;
  • Maintains a bulletin board in the center
  • Shows leadership to co-workers and the community that is consistent, constructive and positive;

Minimum & Additional Requirements

High School Diploma and two (2) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. First Aid training.

Preferred Qualifications

Two-Year college degree; a background working with elementary/teen population, experience working independently and/or as a part of a team, experience working with individual and family services and street outreach, schools, therapeutic recreation, Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Amharic, English/Dari/Pashto,) skills, exceptional customer service skills, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, good knowledge of computers, and good communication skills.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal records background check and drug screening prior to employment.
