The Gift and Donor Relations Officer is responsible for sustaining, growing, and stewarding the donors in the Opportunity Builders program. This includes a mid-level donor portfolio, including 1,000 donors giving between $1,000-2,500 annually to secure $1,000,000 in new fundraising revenue. This new position will define and build the mid-level donor program aligned with our organizational values and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) commitments. The Officer will deepen relationships with donors according to their preferences and interests. The Gift and Donor Relations Officer will collaborate with the Director, Gift Planning & Major Gifts and the Vice President of Major Gifts to build a multichannel donor engagement strategy to expand our outreach and development of donors who can be upgraded within the program's giving levels. The Gift and Donor Relations Office will also be responsible for identifying donors to be moved into the mid-level and major gift programs and identify opportunities for planned giving outreach/conversion. The role reports to the Vice President of Major and Planned Gifts. They serve as the donor care lead who works to maximize donor experience by implementing and maintaining new strategies and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and/or stewardship of the donors and prospective donors assigned within their respective donor/prospect pool or fundraising channel.
  • Participates in the effort to establish an effective case for support (value proposition) and provides feedback on how it resonates with their respective assigned prospective donor pool.
  • Manages specific aspects and business processes of the pipeline (e.g., identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, systems/processing, stewardship) of potential donors to AARP, AARP Foundation, and all other AARP affiliates within their respective assigned prospective donor pool to ensure future growth.
  • Performs processes and functions that support fundraising goals and expectations as needed.
  • Utilizes appropriate resources and processes to help ensure personal and departmental success in meeting departmental and personal objectives and goals and sets high goals and expectations for self.
  • Contributes personally as an example to the Major Gifts Team in reaching goals.
  • Adheres to ethical standards established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience and a proven record of success in nonprofit fundraising, particularly with engaging individual donors, implementing fundraising campaigns and meeting revenue targets. Knowledge of donor development process (cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal processes).
  • Demonstrated success in donor development, Mid-Level giving, fundraising, and marketing.
  • Experience in relationship management (i.e., moves management and CRM systems) and building a pipeline of individual donors that results in strong revenue streams of dollars in sustainable support each year.
  • Commitment to professional development and keeping current on best practices for mid-tier stewardship and development, and overall philanthropic practices and trends

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
