ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION:
The Department of Transportation (MCDOT) plans and implements activities which prevent and correct problems that contribute to the physical decline of county right-of-way infrastructure; ensures fair and equitable services to residents and traveling public throughout the County; and maintains existing infrastructure to ensure a safe transportation network.
ABOUT THE JOB:
The Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Engineering & Operations (DTEO) is looking for an Engineer to provide traffic engineering support for the Traffic Engineering Safety Team that would include managing the County’s Safe Routes to Schools Engineering Program through study, design, and construction in support of the County’s Vision Zero goals.
Duties include:
- Investigating and managing school-related safety improvement requests from other government agencies, residents, members of the county council, community groups and associations, and the general public.
- Reviewing new and re-developments for school safety impacts and needs.
- Performing and overseeing consultant-performed road safety audits and walkability studies.
- Designing and overseeing consultant-designed engineering plans.
- Managing and coordinating construction activity related to engineering safety improvements around Montgomery County schools.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
If Filled at Engineer II: One (1) year of experience in an engineering field appropriate to transportation or traffic safety.
If Filled at Engineer III: Three (3) years of experience in an engineering field appropriate to transportation or traffic safety.
ALL LEVELS - EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline appropriate to the assigned position. Registration as a Professional Engineer may substitute for the degree.
ALL LEVELS - EQUIVALENCY:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, provided such combination includes at least 60 accredited semester hours (or an equivalent amount of accredited professional training) in engineering or related courses appropriate to the assigned position.
ALL LEVELS - LICENSE:
Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence.
