Sr. Business Director-Category Oversight

As a Senior Business Director at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company challenges. You'll work with world-class professionals to develop and test strategies that ultimately impact the bottom line. And you will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insight, encourages you to take on new responsibility, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation.

The ideal candidate comes from a Business Analyst or Risk Management background and is great at problem solving, developing and executing on strategy, creating and documenting processes, driving results, and communicating with senior executive stakeholders.

You will lead the nascent Category Oversight program within second line Technology Risk Management (TRM). We will use Category Oversight to review the major risk mitigation first-line programs in cybersecurity and technology risk: for example, data protection, identity and access management, and cloud governance. We will require the first-line programs to put forward a strong vision, strategy, and roadmap. The programs must then articulate their governance mechanisms, existing risks, and approach to managing those risks. You will shape Category Oversight itself and help the programs we oversee improve their vision and strategies. You will coordinate the work of TRM's subject matter experts, who will engage on the programs for which they are experts.

You will work closely with the Chief Technology Risk Officer and engage regularly with the Chief Risk Officer.

Technology Risk Management (TRM) is a small organization that packs a big punch. We are trusted expert advisers who shape decisions, challenge activities to ensure they meet our standards, and generally oversee technology and information security risk across the business and the central technology organization. TRM is a second line organization, which means it is independent and reports up through the Chief Risk Officer.

TRM plays a critical role in ensuring that the company's risk-taking entities are aware of the risks inherent in their activities and decisions, the impact of their actions on the company at an enterprise level, and opportunities to reduce, mitigate or avoid the risks altogether.

General Responsibilities:
  • Strategic analytic orientation : A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & risk management
  • Product:   Create and lead a new product, Category Oversight, by which TRM will oversee first line activities
  • Execution:  Manage and sequence delivery of business intent, build business requirements and execute against the product strategy. Oversee multiple projects and programs concurrently
  • Cross functional interaction: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. Foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results and present to senior executives
  • Strong executive communication skills : Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Clear results orientation : display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. Drive and execute an agenda while navigating ambiguity and evolving needs
  • Highly adaptable: Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting, risk management, or product experience is a plus
