The Data Scientist II uses analytical tools to access and analyze member data for use in targeting, segmentation, and ad-hoc analytic initiatives. Independently develop end-to-end data logic used in analytical applications using tools such as Databricks and Tableau along with coding language such as SQL or Python. Autonomously manage relationship with internal clients to understand business needs, and define analytical approaches and project plans which assure analytic insights are developed and interpreted. Advise internal clients on strategic use of analytic and database tools for campaign, engagement, member analysis over a variety of media, timeframes and contact points. Provide recommendations and insights to departments across the company focusing on its enterprise wide segments. Communicate analytical results to non-technical audiences. Craft and deliver presentations based on specific business partner audiences and provide the appropriate level of detail required to take action.

Responsibilities

  • Performs key analytic activities (test design/evaluations, incrementality/attribution, journey analytics, etc.) to generate insights.
  • Manages intake and output process for technical and non-technical internal audiences requesting analytic projects. Develops scalable algorithms and methods to provide audience segmentation recommendations. 
  • Utilizes data engineering procedures to feature engineer, move data, and automate products.  
  • Provides education and training to department staff. Provides direct oversight and executes research. Assists in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of best practices. 
  • Writes code proficiently to generate answers to analytic inquiries.  

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working in Data Analytics, Marketing Analysis, Business Analysis, or Consulting preferred.
  • Prior experience in a data-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with a querying language in a big data environment- SQL required.
  • Highly process oriented, with a desire for continuous improvement of processes and associated documentation of efforts.
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to recognize business implications of data. Strong direct and integrated marketing experience and credentials and strong quantitative analysis skills
  • Action orientation. A decisive, quick study with proven analytical ability and strategic business and product development/management skills.
  • Excellent oral/written presentation skills; proficiency in preparation and presentation of proposals, analytical reports, and documents regarding programs' operational status, achievement and performance.
  • Ability to work effectively with people, to gain internal respect and build consensus with superiors, peers, and subordinates.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Python/Scala.
  • Experience building visualizations and dashboards in Tableau.
  • Experience with Databricks.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
