Are you a problem solver seeking an exciting challenge? Can you build relationships as well as develop and implement innovative solutions? Are you ready to work on the front line of a Top 10 Financial Institution? Come be a part of an organization that's dedicated to helping Capital One identify, manage and effectively mitigate risk - for our customers, our clients, and our associates.

As a member of the US Card Partnerships Well Managed Team, that's exactly what you'll do. Working with talented associates, you'll use our horizontal perspective and scope to build products, processes, and experiences that fuel efficient, well managed growth for the Partnerships business.

As a Senior Risk Manager you will be responsible for providing horizontal, well managed support across partner and infrastructure teams. You'll work with business partners and clients to identify and manage existing and potential risks to the Card Partnerships Portfolio. Senior Risk Managers at Capital One are highly motivated professionals with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. These skills allow the Senior Risk Manager to gain insights, and act as a change agent to influence their business partners. A successful Senior Risk Manager operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business they support, applicable laws / regulations and good risk management practices. As Capital One evolves to meet the ever changing technology landscape, so do our associates. They are forward thinking, quick to adapt, and technologically adept.

Specifically, the Well Managed Team within Card Partnerships is leading a multi-year transformational Well Managed journey focusing on:
  • Enabling Ownership and Accountability - working closing with all Card business areas to enable better business results through process alignment, role clarity and interaction model refinement
  • Refining Risk-Based Workflow Management - assessing and analyzing work to right-size our approach and prioritize actions based on key risk mitigation and detection efforts
  • Driving Simplicity and Standardization - integrating related work to reduce noise and focus on the most critical and effective elements of our risk and control ecosystem
  • Promoting Automation - advancing the journey to reduce manual processes, enhance monitoring techniques and seizing the power of data

The scope of work includes managing risks by creating programs for oversight and implementing control environments and risk management activities that prevent and detect regulatory and operational breakdowns. The Well Managed team also supports critical departmental or cross-functional initiatives and projects including Audits, Exams, Compliance Assessments, Partner Conversions, Business Continuity Planning, and Process Redesign. This Senior Risk Manager will interact with auditors and examiners to prepare the business, manage the facilitation of audits and exams, and assist/review business responses being submitted to auditors. This is a critical role with high visibility across the Card organization, partner divisions, and second and third lines across the enterprise.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing and leading a high performing team of associates and potentially non-associates
  • Acting as a subject matter expert to effectively partner with key stakeholders to achieve desired outcome or improvement by clarifying needs and providing appropriate solutions (e.g. new intent, issue resolution, assessment model)
  • Assisting in the identification of risks, issues and/or mitigation plans to ensure the business implements needed changes and addresses areas of exposure
  • Coordinating, influencing and negotiating priorities with teams to ensure well managed goals/timelines are met; escalating when appropriate
  • Driving prioritization and understanding/articulating appropriate trade-offs
  • Establishing strong interaction models and relationships to collaborate and consult with key stakeholders
  • Streamlining interactions within the business related to risk mitigation, control/assessment progress and process improvement opportunities
  • Participating in risk forums and contribute to continuous improvement of risk management practices across Card to align Partnerships accordingly
  • Reviewing organizational performance outcomes to identify potential areas of risk exposure that require further review
  • Collecting data and information and using analytics and reporting to develop a reporting process that provides transparency to senior leadership and executives
  • Developing and maintaining formal process documentation including procedures, playbooks, and process flow diagrams that demonstrate the well managed infrastructure
  • Analyzing and resolving effective challenges from risk stakeholders (e.g.. ERM, ORM, Compliance, Audit)
  • Staying abreast of the changing regulatory environment and understanding the impacts to the Partnerships business

Here's what we're looking for in an ideal teammate:
  • You are a critical thinker who seeks to understand the business, its processes, risks and control environment.
  • You create energy and an environment that fosters trust, collaboration, and belonging.
  • You possess a relentless focus on quality and timeliness.
