Advisor and Recruitment CoordinatorThe Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution is a community of faculty, students, staff, alumni and partners with a fundamental commitment to building peace. We are a Commonwealth Center for Excellence, home to degree programs at the BA/BS, MS, PhD, and Certificate levels, an affiliate MS program in Malta, and an undergraduate degree program in Incheon, South Korea, as well as a vibrant array of centers, Peace Labs and projects. Through the development of cutting-edge theory, research, education, and practical work, the Carter School seeks to identify and address the underlying causes of conflict and provide tools for ethical and just peacebuilding and conflict resolution on local, national and global stages.The Carter School Undergraduate Program provides coursework, programming, and advising support for students majoring in Conflict Analysis, students with one of three different conflict minors, and students from across the university who enroll in one of our many skill-building classes. Our student services office has a commitment to excellence that seeks to connect students to vital resources, provide thoughtful and individualized mentorship that engages each student in a self-discovery process, and empowers students to challenge themselves as they prepare for the variety of career paths that the conflict resolution degree can lead to.We are seeking qualified candidates for the full-time, classified position of Recruitment Coordinator and Academic Advisor. The position will be part of the Undergraduate Student Services staff in Fairfax and will report to the Undergraduate Director of Student Services. This position requires occasional weekend and evening availability.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:RecruitmentCollaborate with Carter School staff to create and implement enrollment and marketing strategies; work with team to revise and update marketing materials;Track enrollment and recruiting using Mason and Carter School data;Attend recruitment events sponsored by the Carter School and serve as the Carter School representative at events hosted by the Office of Admissions, including prospective freshmen and transfer open houses and orientation events held by the Office of New Student and Family Programs;Conduct outreach and share information with community college advisors and faculty, and high school counselors and teachers;Coordinate the Carter School Ambassador Program, a group of undergraduate students that assist with recruiting, community building, and undergraduate leadership;Liaise with the Carter School Alumni association, facilitating opportunities to advance mentoring, outreach, and community building;Plan events that support recruitment efforts; andCoordinate marketing, recruitment, and administrative support for student services and academic programming.Academic AdvisingMeet with prospective, new, and current Conflict Analysis and Resolution majors and minors to provide academic advising related to degree requirements, course scheduling, internships, and career interests;Be knowledgeable about Mason student resources, policies, and processes. Follow administrative procedures for student interactions and record keeping;Process student academic forms and respond in a timely manner to student inquiries;Prepare reports on student milestones, concentrations, graduation audits, internships etc.; andPrepare and maintain confidential student records.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience;Excellent interpersonal skills;Engaging and professional presentation skills;Ability to be collaborative, seeking input and sharing information with stakeholders;Understanding of Carter School goals and objectives; willingness to focus attention toward execution of current and innovative activities to further those goals;Effective communication and organizational skills and experience (or ability to engage) with technologies utilized in higher education; andAbility to build a rapport with students; building trust, flexibility; and an empathetic, non-judgmental, and ethical approach with a diverse group of students.Preferred Qualifications:Experience/background in Higher Education and Social Sciences helpful, but not required;Creating print and social media marketing materials;Experience with event planning; andMaster's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary starting in the low $50,000's or higher commensurate with education and experience.
