Writer/EditorGeorge Mason University's Office of the Provost invites applications for a Writer/Editor. The team builds awareness of university-wide initiatives and supports the communication efforts of units within the Office of the Provost. The team's areas of focus include:Serving as a liaison with other internal offices to integrate strategies and align activities with university-wide academic initiatives and strategic priorities;Providing vision and direction for key digital communications from offices within the Provost's division, working across communications channels such as email, websites, social media, video, and more; andCollaborating with the Office of University Branding and the Provost's Office Piers, the team works to ensure timely, consistent, and transparent messaging across the Provost's Office.About the Position:The Writer/Editor supports the Office of the Provost's communication efforts through research, writing, editing, and revision of internal and external communications for a variety of purposes, audiences, and platforms including but not limited to: project and initiative updates, website copy, grant proposals, student and faculty profiles, news articles, talking points, video scripts, executive reports, and other ad hoc writing requests.Responsibilities:Content Creation (45%): Responsible for writing and developing content to contribute to the Provost's Office communications efforts, while adhering to Mason's brand and editorial standards.Writes content for the Office of the Provost's internal and external communications including project and initiative updates, website copy, newsletters, student and faculty profiles, news articles, talking points, video scripts, executive reports, and other ad hoc writing requests;Constructs compelling narrative and storytelling around data, with awareness of target audience; andMaintains brand voice and university style.Content Editing (35%): Responsible for editing and revising content as necessary to ensure consistent quality in digital and print written materials.Provides editing/revision support for the Office of the Provost's internal and external communications;Proofreads, edits, and fact-checks digital and print copy prior to publication, ensuring readability, typographical/grammatical correctness, appropriate formatting, and completeness; andAdheres to university's style guide and meets established publication deadlines.Grant Writing (15%): Collaborate with Provost's Office stakeholders to submit grant proposals.Writes, revises, and edits administrative grant proposals for units in the Provost's Office.Strategic Engagement and Research (5%): Responsible for supporting strategic communications efforts to ensure visibility, engagement, and content relevance across campus and beyond.Connects with key constituents and internal stakeholders to identify communications needs, conduct interviews, and plan content; andStrategizes how to raise visibility and internal/external awareness of the Office strategic initiatives.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, or other relevant writing-focused field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;Advanced level communication, writing, copyediting, and fact-checking skills with the ability to disseminate information to diverse audiences;Experience in managing, organizing and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects effectively to meet internal and external deadlines; excellent research and time management skills;Demonstrated experience creating written content, and strong editing skills to spot and correct errors;Developed interpersonal skills;Ability to work both independently and collaboratively;Excellent attention to detail; organized and process-oriented; andDemonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in higher education; andAbility to effectively coordinate and communicate with diverse faculty, staff, and administrators across multiple disciplines and administrative offices.
